I'm in a right pickle.

My wife has just rang me and said she wants to book me a custom fitting for a driver for my Christmas present.

She paid for me to get fitted, and purchased my Scotty for me as a birthday present at the start of this year. I was like a kid in a sweet shop. I had never been fitted for any club before and enjoyed the whole process and the science of it a lot.

She obviously picked up on my excitment and has tabled the same offer as previously. Pay for the custom fit and club.

As I said, I've never (before my putter) been fit for a club. I have no idea of my swing speed, launch angles, spin rates etc I've always brought off the shelf, factory standard clubs.

My Scotty plays like a dream. Not because it's a Scotty but because it's fitted to me. I have absolute confidence in it and, as you would expect froom it being fitted, feels bang on.

My problem with it is........ I like my MP630 driver

Do I tell the missis not to bother/don't want it and leave her with very short notice to find a replacement and the grief that comes with it?

or

Go and get the fitting, find out my stats and get the bonus of a new, custom fit shiney, after all, she does insist :D

Thoughts?

It's easy - do you want a fitting and a new driver? If yes then enjoy the gift and if no then tell your wife it's not what you want right now...

She'd rather you be up front and have to stress about what to get you than spend money on something you don't want.

Anyhow, serves her right for leaving it so close to the big day ;-)

Why don't you book the cf session but with no obligation go try some new shineys get your stats compared to your 630 and take it from there if all is much better you get a nice shiney driver. If not much improvement you will at least have some fun and plenty of goodwill in the bank!

My thoughts exactly. The fitting session will show whether there is a club that is better suited. If so, buy it. If not, get your wife to buy you something else that you need for the bag.

Yep, take your own club and see which gives you the best stats, and which 'feels' right for you. You might get a surprise... or maybe not.

My suggestion is get a shaft fitting instead of a club fitting. If you like your current driver head then get a proper shaft fitting to maximise the current head.

Thats the mistake i made when i went to scott gourlay and i ended up with a head i didn't really like.
