Right. I'm not quite sure how I managed that?

I had a lesson Thursday night where my pro made a few changes to my grip.

Everything else was in good order.

Still getting used to the change to my right hand position, but as I'm sure those of you who have changed grip will agree, it feels very alien.

I decided to play today and with me feeling like a was holding the club upside down started out. I started off with 5 bogeys on the spin  . Not through poor play per say, but missing two 2ft putts for par won't help matters

A par follows, but then followed another bogey followed by a double. 9 over for 9 holes.

Back 9 starts as the other ended, bogey followed by another double  but then something miraculous happened.

I made par

..... Followed by another

....... And another :D

Reading my card back when I'd finished, after the bogey, double start to the back 9, I parred 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

The 18th at my gaff is short par 5 (Sub 500 yards). Good tree shot followed by a 19° hybrid saw me to the front edge of the green in 2. Chipped the ball to about 3ft and rolled it in for a closing birdie.

From a potential train wreck of a score to shooting 3 under my handicap is a very strange feeling for me.

I'm still bemused as to how is happened to be honest.

I didn't feel like I played any differently through the whole 18 holes, yet my scoring for the final third of the round is some of my best scoring for that section of the course.

The only thing I can think of is a change in mentality allowing me to scramble better and make a better score.

I know it's often said but it just shows no matter how bad you feel you're playing, if you keep plugging away things can come good.

Today has been a valuable lesson in how to grind out a score for me

I can kind of see where you're coming from Gareth. Keeping the head when it's tough going is crucial at any level of golf imo, something I kind of struggle with. I was striking the ball well today, thought I was playing tidy, but alas, another 0.1 back..... (8 on a par 3 won't of helped mind....)

Well done for changing your grip, its not easy to do and you will have some ups and downs as you get used to it.

And dont be tempted to switch back when you play rubbish because it wont be your grip that will need fixing but something else.

Still feels weird.

I keep walking to my bag and grabbing a club just to get the repetition of gripping the club with new grip.

Club face feels miles open but is square.

I had a similar day today but back to front! However me and my playing partners never really get onto the back 9 due to other commitments since we have been back playing the last month or so, Just not used to the holes and greens as yet. New course for me also doesn't help!

Good going though bud! Hope you keep it going!

That's a really drawn out way of bragging about scoring 3 under HC ;)

Awesome work though on the score, especially after a grip change! Sounds like it could have a big impact!

Anyone that plays off high singles knows that kind of scoring week in week out.

Frustrating as the two 9s rarely come together :(
