Good evening

I'm looking at getting back in to golf. I used to be a regular junior player at my local club but that was over 20 years ago. Obviously no longer get any gear at all. Need to get a full set up again and was wondering whether to go for a package type deal - thinking Wilson type price from American Golf or something better from eBay or similar second hand. Any recommendations would be welcome as I'm completely out of touch of what's good and what's not!

Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for the advice. I will read through some of the other threads too.

SH sounds good - just so many!

Looking at maybe £300 - any recommendations on brands/models/age?

check out the SH section at any good club pro shop TBH, you would be able to try them there too.

I would avoid AG, over priced and not very good, but that might just be the one up here

What was your last set? Wondering what the current equivalent is :)

Hi, think it was a mix match of things people had handed down and I bought so nothing high end whatsoever.

I vaguely remember having a Titelist driver and some other Wilson woods - clubs might have been Mizuno not sure on putter.

Ping G series irons, Callaway X series irons (various iterations denoted by number afterwards) are both popular recommendations for this sort of thing, if it was me I would look for a set of cavity backed game improvement irons from 5 to 10 years ago that are in decent condition, you wont notice a huge difference between the main OEMs (ping, callaway, titleist, taylor made, mizuno, srizon, cobra) would also consider the mid range brands like Benross

Would then add a 3 wood and a hybrid and a putter and get out there :)

Why? You've got the habit beaten and you're going back?

That's like quitting smoking and going back to it after twenty years.
If you need frustration and aggravated annoyances, just get married.

On second thought, maybe golf isn't such a bad idea.

Ebay .
Type golf set.
Time ending soonest in drop box .
These usually don’t have any bids because most golfers just buy individual clubs .
So some bargins.
Take your time ,it’s winter so plenty of time to look.
Any big oem clubs are good these days .
Cavity back possibly 3/4 years old will be just as good as today’s megabuck sets.

Hi

I've had a look online and in some stores too. AG were trying to get me to buy a £700 Callaway Warbird set.. I've found looking for 2nd hand clubs difficult as I don't know what's good and what's not!

I've seen some other Callaway full sets - Edge and X Hot 2+ which are both around £500 without a bag which would be top end of my budget.

Would people recommend these or building your own set for an equivalent price (if that's even possible).

Thanks

You should be able to find a good starter set for less than £100 on ebay.
Whereabouts are you based and I'll find a few examples local to you as collecting is much easier for the seller so you get cheaper offers.

Hi

I'm based in Rossendale, Lancashire.

Thanks

Had a very quick look and found these, I'll look a bit more later.

These aren't a bad set for £150

Not a fashionable name but decent set for £100

A very interesting bag (to me only!) which if I'm not mistaken includes four JB Halley "Tournament" model irons, wish I lived closer.

its the BANDIT wedge you are after innit! :p

The Callaways plus cobra woods at 150 seem a good starting point for the OP
