Hey folks,

At 38 I'm now returning to golf, hopefully a wee bit more seriously than I did before. In my teens I had a 7 iron, yes one club. I used to play with balls I found on courses in the rain when no one was playing. A bit cheeky but that's what we did. We'd go to our local field and just play it like a hole. Closed down on the 7 iron to drive off then opened up to chip, that sort of stuff. I then progressed from that to getting a proper set later on in my twenty's. A full set of MacGregor clubs lol. Much like the sets you see in Sports Direct now.

Naturally going from course to course in Glasgow, Scotland. I mostly played at Dalmuir and Knightswood, and the odd trip away to Troon and Ross Priory with the work on golf outings. I then settled on Aberfoyle with a friend who was a member. Not being able to join a club for the fees put me off Golf and I quit in 2005. I had amounted a lot of gear. Mostly all Titleist, 983K driver, DCi Irons and Scotty cameron putter. All the gear with no idea.

Lately I have come back to it, with it being a lot more affordable to play, and a lot less expensive than professional sports photography (mainly SPL football) so I'm excited to join a club in my area. i'm going round trying them out first of course. I tried Kirkintilloch last night and I was pleased with my 12 holes before the light died.

I'm hoping to enjoy it more than before, with less emphasis on the gear and more on the score on the card and how to better it. I used to be that guy with the new driver because the last one wasn't right. I'd love to slap myself lol.

Anyway, open to suggestion on suitable courses to play in the G66 and surrounding area.

Take care

Paul

I live in the G66 area also and we are pretty much spoilt for choice with about at least 7 courses within a 15 minute drive from the front door.

I'm in the process of moving clubs just now too and have whittled it down to two - Balmore and Kirkintilloch. If money is no obstacle Cawder would be the stand out choice as it has two excellent courses. To be fair they have dropped the joining fee but annual subscription is still over £900 and I feel I would have to play a lot more to justify it.

Let me know if you fancy a game.

I'm playing at Crow Wood on Friday Morning to see how that course is. I liked Kirky but it was soggy down the start of the back nine. Good challenge though.

What's the deal with those poker chip markers anyway? Is a coin not good enough anymore?

How did Crow Wood go Paul? Never played it but often drive past it.
