Playing a winter round for the first time Thursday (all being well!) and I don't want to look a complete tool. If my ball leaves a pitch mark on a winter green is the form to repair it? I'm assuming yes?

Playing in permafrost is an art form, you must try it sometime, Its funny when a lovely high approach shot that would normally hit n sit, suddenly bounces 100 feet in the air after contact with a rock hard green, at least its funny if it is your opponents ball :)

If the ground is really frozen you won't make pitchmarks anyway :D I played on winter greens last weekend for the first time this season ... the ground had mostly thawed, though. They were faster than I expected, but bumpy as hell, making putting more a game of luck than skill. And the temporary greens are tiny at our course, making approach shots a real challenge (and further reducing the danger of leaving pitchmarks ... you have to hit the green from some distance to make that happen after all).

Always repair a pitchmark or two, even if not yours, winter golf or not (frost allowing in winter). Played in the wet at the weekend and repaired more than a few  if done correctly, straight away, difficult to tell there was even a pitchmark there, even on plugged balls.
