Renew or Not?

Just found out that my wife is pregnant with our first child and im over the moon. The question is whether to renew club membership which is up at the end of March with a rough estimate of the baby being born in September (Touch wood). Working in education means i get the summer holidays to get plenty of golf in coupled with the Easter break but i obviously won`t be playing a lot when the baby is born. Don`t know whether its worth renewing or not. THose of you who have children what was your experience regarding playing?

Why not? That's when I started to play again. Get under the wife's feet and she'll be begging you to go.

as above post,put it this way you'll want to get out of the house quicker than you think,lol. i've started taking my 6yr old daughter on the practice ground and driving range,she's had junior coaching,while she's having that with the pro i manage to squeeze an extra hours practice in,it keeps the mrs happy as i'm doing things with the little lass rather than just leaving her at home,i play about 5 times a week in the summer! winter saturday and sunday and range 2 nights a week!

I suppose it depends on how easy it would be to rejoin and would there be another joining fee ?

Personally I kept up my memebership, it is just a case of trying to balance everything and taking your turn to do stuff. I play early morning at the weekends to give us family time later in the day.

When my wife was pregnant, she had early pains and she sent me off to play in the Saturday medal after I left her at her parents house. I came home, had a meal, off to hospital and Sophie was born early the next morning.

You will wonder what you did with all your time previously, when the baby comes along, everything changes.

Thanks, rejoining shouldn`t be too much of a problem and as far as i know joining fees are suspended at the moment. I suppose i will probably get my moneys worth over the summer in terms of green fees saved. Im guessing my wifes approval of a new set of irons won`t be very forthcoming now though.

Congratulations.
I would renew it as you will still get the spring and summer months to play which is where you feel you get your moneys worth out of the membership. When the baby arrives you obviously won't get as much time to play but 1 or 2 games a month isn't out of the question, is it? It's when you have 2 kids (or more) you won't get a chance.
When I got my first game of golf in after the birth of our second child (6 weeks after) I just felt so relaxed it was great, I think I was making the most of it incase it was another 6 weeks until the next round. But it was a great time to just unwind and feel pleased with yourself.
Good luck, I hope all goes well, with golf and with baby. It really is the best thing in the world........so play as much as you can before the baby arrives

congrats on the good news mate. I have now got 2 kids and I kept my membership live for them both. I would say keep it as it gives you a break and also it gets you from under your other halfs feet at times, but be prepared to be called back just as you hit a good shot. Also be prepared for your other half to go into labour when you are furthest away from the clubhouse. So far my wife has done this on the 12th and the 15th hole.

With a bit of give & take and a willingness to make some re-arrangements to your times of play, there shouldn't really be any problems.

I played throughout our daughters infant years. My wife plays too, she played until she was 6 months gone. She started up again about 4 months after she gave birth.

I have 2 children a 2yr old little boy and a 7 yr old little girl....I only took up golf full time last year and an injury to my leg had me at home for a bit....If i were you i wouldnt panic just yet....The worst part of having the lil' one will be the lack of sleep for the first 8 or so months if your someone that gets by on a few hours sleep anyway this may not affect you too much....It is hard at first but gets easier....HiD's will be keen to do a lot of walking also with the new arrival in the pram and this should give you a bit of lee way even for a small bit of practice.....Without wanting to sound nosey have you discussed it with your other half....She may want you to keep playing your golf there's nothing wrong with getting out for a round at the weekend and it'll give her some time with herslf and the baby....Also when you get home she can have her few hours to herself and let you spend some alone time with the baby....It'll swing both ways for the better trust me.....
Whatever happens embrace it and enjoy it because kids are the best thing that has ever happened to me......

HCFC, Renew it definitly you just need an understanding wife i think.

I've got a 3yr old and a 3 month old, still manage to play every sunday in the comp and at least 2 days during the week throughout the summer.

During winter i play some early saturday mornings an d all of the sunday comps but i'm always home for dinner time 12-1 so i can be with my tart and kids which i look forward to.

I've knocked going out after work on a friday on the head which i'm not too bothered about tbh.

My tart doesn't mind me playing golf at all as long as i spend 1 day of the weekend with them.

I'd say it depends on alot of things. Firstly if you would get your moneys worth but also it depends alot on your finances. babies are very expensive especially before they are born and would your membership fee put you under financial pressure. If not then there is no problem in staying a member but there can be alot of stress when you have a new born and money worries wouldnt help the situation. At the end of the day only you can make the decision.

Congrats by the way parenthood is a wonderful thing and i hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

I suppose the problem is i guess is that i already have a season ticket for City, coach a boys football team at a good standard that takes me all over the North of England every Saturday, Play football myself once a week and Golf on a Sunday. I am just trying to review what needs to give when the little one comes not just interms of finance but obviously with time. With regrets the football coaching is going and will therefore be my last season but something else has to go at least until the nipper is a little older. Finance wise i could afford to keep it on but am a little torn because i have only started playing this beautiful game again this season after a long lay off.

Congratulations! I think DCB sums it up in saying it's all about give and take. From what you say I'd renew and see how it goes. You will undoubtedly play less, your handicap will probably go up and you may have the odd "difference of opinion" should you qualify for a club final! If you don't rejoin you may wish you had and it will be all the more difficult to justify later.

Believe me i know, she is very understanding but even she has her limits! I guess if City get relegated then it might be easier to get tickets for the games therefore the pass could go and i could pick and choose my games. That said i would be gutted if we did go down!

Having seen what else you do, there's not enough hours in the day to do everything you do now so something must give.

Those of you who have children what was your experience regarding playing?

Firstly, congrats on the news.

I quit playing for a good long time, not just for the family but also for the job/work to support the family.

If you end up laying low for a while, don't forget to pick up the clubs now and again and try not to leave it for 7 years!

Can you or do you want to retire from the footie.....I ask because iv played since i was 8 im 35 now...I snapped my achilles last may and have decided only just at christmas to retire..... I wanted to play till i was 40 my fitness was very high and could have easily reached this were it not for the injury....But being true to myself and my family i done what i thought was right and i also put it to the forum for some views and the feedback i got was exceptional.....This morning was my first sunday without a match and i can say i relaxed well into the position....I cant wait for next weekend to come around weather permitting to kickstart my golf season....Do what you feel is right for you and your family and never second guess youself im sure whatever you decide will be the right choice...

Hi,
Have a 7 month old myself and it hasn't really effected the amount of golf i can play u just need a understanding wife plus remember she is off work for 6 months when the baby is born so use that to get into a routine where u go playing and then just keep going u may have to make a choice between golf and coaching because it seems to take up more time that the golf green fees for a game once or twice a month may be the way to go.
