The club I chose to join has announced in a newsletter that the head greenkeeper & one of the assistants are being made redundant due to lack of income when the snow was around & a vastly reduced membership rejoining this year & are looking to make further savings, it is one of the better clubs in the area, so if they are struggling god knows how the other clubs are coping.

I would be a bit worried. If the cash injection from this year's membership is not enough and the club does go under all of the members could be out of pocket.

Not a good sign for the season when the head greenkeeper is disposed of.

Sounds like a classic shooting oneself in the foot. How can they attract and retain members if the greenstaff are allowed to go. Touch wood we're doing ok and have a steady stream of new members coming through the door at the moment

If that's the case, I'd be potentially thinking about switching my subs payment to monthly to protect yourself.

you need to check that carefully too,
my club does monthly dd but when you sign up you are committing to the year. if they went down the tubes the receiver could call in all the subs.

I'm not sure that is the case if the service for which you are paying ceases.

I think that this is the case. I am sure that I have heard of cases where gyms have closed but members were still charged for the remainder of their contracted period.
