really very wet indeed!

Craw,it would be no different if it had been at Loch Lomond,it can be a midden in July, the last 3 years I have been there it has been 'damp' so wouldn't fancy it in October. My mate who's a greeny went there to look at the ultra expensive drainage that was put in and it was mid October and he said it was clatching.Turnberry though would be a different matter, they would be pegging it up for the foursomes as I type if it was played on a real golf course but money talks all day long sadly.

Craw
believe me, any course (links included) would have become unplayable after this amount of rain. I have
never seen anything like it in my life. The real people who need to be looking at themselves is the PGA Tour for forcing the event back two weeks due to the Fed-Ex play offs

Monday finish it is then......finally Peter Alliss says something of note, the 1st four day Ryder Cup it is.

That'll be the 1st and last time the Taffs host the Ryder cup!

I don't think any courses could have withstood this amount of rain!! But still having it in October deep in the valleys of south wales was always asking for trouble.
Also time to stop pandering to the yanks and letting them have their money tournament so late and close to the rc.

Whilst we may moan about the Fed-Ex Cup pushing the Ryder Cup back a week, we need the US team to compete and, if there's a clash, guess where all the top players will be?

Not at the Ryder Cup, that's for sure. For about 10,000,000 reasons.

Well, it gives me an excuse to work from home again on Monday. Have to drive past Celtic Manor to work, no way I can get through the traffic on Monday morning!! ;)

What's worse is the PGA Tour had a week break before the Tour Championship.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people saying 'I told you so' today.

I just can't help but marvel at the supreme idiocy of combining this date with this venue.

At least it's looking dry for the Oct Medal at my place tomorrow morning :D

It has been on the horizon for months. GM, the press in general and other magazines have all been saying that even with decent weather there was always an element of doubt about whether it would get done in three days at this time of year. It's all about the PGA Tour and not the USPGA wanting as much money for itself as possible. The blame is squarely at the door of the tour on this one. They have had two years to think about the schedule for their play-offs and it isn' as if the Fed Ex is a brand new event.

I think Wales will get another crack and it deserves it. From what I've seen so far the organisation has been exceptional. If the Belfry can have it twice I see no reason why it won't eventually go back to Celtic Manor. In fact, give it another 16 years to mature and it'll be an awesome course to play it on

I don't its a mud bath of a course 90% of the year. I was down there in August 2 years ago and it was squelching water up past your knees.

I used to book my holidays years ago based around the equinox. Great weather for windsurfing though.

Where's this "equinox" place you go yachting around ? It sounds like it's always good weather there .....

Hi Hawkeye
i played at Hoebridge on Tuesday - still had some fine ridge marks, but the greens were probably teh best i have known them in something like 25 years . Also the yellow tees were really quite far back; pretty much back with teh whites, which made it a different challenge . Hole 5 was always fun, but was quite a beast this time round.

I've not saying the drainage is perfect despite all the hype from the owner and bullishness on the morning news that "it'll cope fine" but surely there has to be more chance of it being playable in August/September than October.

I just hope it doesn't affect the big event of the year in a fortnights time at Goswick ;)

Dave, the gos will play fine in this doonpoour. :D

Real golf course...still perfectly playable due to it's wonderful sand based well draining land.

I might see if IM01 and Screwback fancy mounting a bid, heck it would still be playable in November. ;)

I played the Belfrey in it's early days, four days before a big Pro do was about to start and the landing area of the 16th fairway had TWO tracked diggers stuck in the soft ground with a GUR sign beside them!! No doubt over the years the drainage has been improved and this will happen at Celtic Manor.

October = seaside course in UK in my opinion!

Short daylight hours and slow play will make any catching up most unlikely.

I watched, tried to watch, Gallagher/Barnes V ?/? in the RC years ago and it was impossible to follow. Player 1 tees off to the feet of player 2, 250 yards down the fairway, who in turn plays his second shot onto the green and then marches to the next tee as player 1 either knocked in the putt or it was a gimmie. I have never seen a match played at such speed, no furtive huddles before teeing up, looooong mins spent selecting club for second shot and the time needed now to line up a putt!!!

No wonder Peter Allis despairs over the modern game of pro golf.

We are in for a long drawn out RC I'm afraid!

Taken from Wikipedia.

"An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the center of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth's equator. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. The name "equinox" is derived from the Latin aequus (equal) and nox (night), because around the equinox, the night and day are approximately equally long. It may be better understood to mean that latitudes +L and -L north and south of the Equator experience nights of equal length.

At an equinox, the Sun is at one of two opposite points on the celestial sphere where the celestial equator (i.e. declination 0) and ecliptic intersect. These points of intersection are called equinoctial points: classically, the vernal point and the autumnal point. By extension, the term equinox may denote an equinoctial point.

An equinox happens each year at two specific moments in time (rather than two whole days), when there is a location (the subsolar point) on the Earth's equator, where the center of the Sun can be observed to be vertically overhead, occurring around March 20/21 and September 22/23 each year.

Although the word equinox is often understood to mean "equal [day and] night," this is not strictly true. For most locations on earth, there are two distinct identifiable days per year when the length of day and night are closest to being equal; those days are referred to as the "equiluxes" to distinguish them from the equinoxes. Equinoxes are points in time, but equiluxes are days. By convention, equiluxes are the days where sunrise and sunset are closest to being exactly 12 hours apart."

Traditionally. It's always wet and windy around this time in this country. Thus why it's good for windsurfing.
