REAL Winter driving yardages.....

I still hit over 300 yds on some corkers in these mild winter conditions.
Yep agree Driving distance is not important on many holes. Its the set up for the 2nd that is the money shot.
I often out hit people only to find I've too far and have a damn 40-50 yard git of a shot or too far in the rough / woods where I could be in the fairway with a 4 iron and a nice 7/8 iron left over into the green.

I really don't understand all the fuss and tadger measuring.I'm not sure which category i fall into,as i've never really been interested in how far i hit my Driver,in fact since joining my present club ive never had a Driver or Fairway wood in the bag, although i've been told my the guys i play the Texas Scramble comps with that i have to bring my Driver next time, which is why i'm tinkering with my mates D2 at the minute. The course is relatively short, but very very tight, shot placement and being able to shape the ball both ways is far more important than length off the tee.

Love these todger waving threads :)

Who cares how far anyone else hits any club? I couldn't give a monkeys when I'm playing as the only thing that matters is my ball, my score, my handicap.

For the record I have no accurate idea how far I hit any of my clubs, only rough guess-timates but based on some of the guys on here I would have a lonely round playing with them as I'd forever be 40 yards behind them......:)

Wait for it...

I find the second shot far more important because if I have had a wayward drive the second shot is the one that can help me to recover the hole. In addition the second shot is also the one that importantly sets you up for the hole.

One of the most difficult guys I play doesn't use a driver and can only hit his 3 wood 210yds however he can hit it 210 yds off the tee or off the fairway and very rarely strays from the fairway. He's very consistent, doesn't make many mistakes and is very hard to beat.

personally i love to hit a big drive, its just soo satisfying, and can make a hole much easier

im surprised a lot of people allegedly "don't care"

for me its the second most enjoyable shot to hit in golf, first being a mid/long iron approach to the centre of the green

It was actually a thread to point out most people probably don't hit it as far as they think they do, especially in Winter..... it does however seem that we still have some here who can out hit Bubba even when the ground's wet :D

Yes, perhaps I would have been more accurate saying "I love how these tye of threads develop into todger waving2!! :)

Interesting stuff and I would tend to agree with you that people (in the main, there will be exceptions) would get a bit of a shock measuring their drives.

Particularly in the context of "average" distances rather than "Sunday best" distances. Me among them!

I managed -20 yards on a drive at Cullen last week in the high winds off the 6th tee. now thats what i call winter yardages :)

this is great some of you can't press the keys fast enough,,,at the driving range with the driver my ball lands near the 200yrd marker,,i have no gps for the course ,so with the roll my drive is OK with a 3/4 swing & a full follow through this way i seem to keep better control of the ball ,,for me its all about knowing the course then you can lose allot of distance by cutting corners, Drive ,pitch, putt, BIRDY

Funny that when someone is discussing the effect of the temperature on drives everyone assumes they are 'claiming' to be a long hitter. Also people dive in and say its not how far you hit it - its how straight etc etc. All very true but the OP wasn't about that at all as far as I read it anyway.

At present I am taking at least 1 extra club for every shot and on colder days / wet ground sometimes 2.

Now I don't have a driver+1 or +2 setting so it is very relevant to everyone's game how far it goes as it could mean you cant make a carry you would normally try or the best position is using a 3 wood now.
