REAL Winter driving yardages.....

i understand what you are saying but this does not apply to everyone, and because you were guilty of it it doesn't mean that if i say i carry x amount that it's not true.as i've said i've played a lot of golf this year at a lot of courses using gps, strokesavers and i rely on knowing what my yardages are.a lot of short par 4's i can reach and this also lets me know how far i carry and hit the ball so i ain't going to come on here and make it up am i?

the problem is people will never believe you,if i cam on here and said my carry yardages were 230-240 no one would say anything...why is that?and there is no way of proving it,the only way would be to play golf with some people on here.
I think by your reaction you proved his statement of "some forumers geting slightly defensive " to be 100% right , you not think ? personaly i dont care how far anyone else hits their driver or their 5 iron etc , il believe whatever anyone tell me coz it doesnt mater a jot to me whether they can or not all that matters is the score at the end, the one you sign for

Bang on the money, its amazing how defensive people get over their driving length, anyone would think you have questioned the size of the man hood.

Length has nothing to do with golf unless your in a long driving comp, the only true measurement of golfing ability or lack of it to me , is the handicap. I played with a 20hc player this week who would rip a 3hybrid level with my best drives, and hes drives were 20-30 feet at least past mine, but hes off 20, and i'm alot lower. was i worried about hes extra 30ft... yes if im honest it grated me all bloody day.

it wouldn't matter if i drove the ball 230 or 330 the fact is it's the accusation of being a liar or almost "making it up"...

that's the part i am defending.i'm always going to defend my credibility because one thing i'm not is someone who thinks they hit it further than they really do.

it seems you short hitters can't accept the fact that there genuinely is players out there who do hit it far but aren't on the tour.

and i agree it's not all about distance, during my game yesterday i could only muster up a par on the par 5 when my playing partners were closer than me for birdie even though i was well past them with my drive, but when someone starts a thread asking what your yardages are i'm going to answer them honestly,i haven't came on here saying that i hit it this far and that far.......

like i said anyone wants to play a game with me and they can see for themselves,i put a video up of my swing and i can put up some more if you's like?

I hit some cracking drives (for me) yesterday. It was by far the best part of my game. I was somewhat disappointed when I came home and measured them using that google earth tool. Turns out they were mostly 230-240. I suppose I got no roll at all but it has made me realise just how far 270 yds of carry is. I don't think I'll be hitting them that far :(

Interesting this one.

A stat that I heard was that you lose about 10% distance in the colder weather, which after measuring one of my drives on Saturday is probably about right. HOWEVER, the temperature was 10deg on Saturday, do I lose another 10% when the temp. goes down to Zero?

My average drive in the summer was 268yrds, on Saturday it was 241yrds so bang on 10%. However, my 52deg, PW and 9iron were all the same distance (100yrds, 115yrds and 135yrds)?

i think this is definately true, you find in the summer months that the ball will usually carry further because of the warmer air.if you went out to the states and other hot countries you would fine you hit the ball further.

I remember being out with my pro and a 19 yr old 5 hcap that worked for him who would be blowing about how far his drives went(they were low runny things). Now the pro hits the ball a country mile and he would easily carry the ball 270-300 but he is a 6ft7in and 22 stone animal LOL. usually his ball is very close to his pitch mark due to the height he has his run is very little.
Now his accuracy is not as great as his distance which is where he would suffer on course.
So anyways we were out with this young lad one day and he said oh im getting close to you only 20 yds behind as we walked off the teebox, so as we were about 100 yds from their balls the pro does this norman wisdom style trip and the young lad says what happened there and the pro replies " i tripped in your pitch mark"
Well i have never laughed as hard or seen anyone get so angry in all my life LOL.

But getting back on subject I was out at the end of August 1 Sunday and there was a Scratch Cup competition on over 2 days and 1 guy who went on to win was out in our fourball as he needed his card marked for the second round and was hitting his 6 iron 155yds and finished 2 over.
That taught me enough about how distance doesn't matter.

He's said it before.
And he'll say it again.....

:p

I think the defining point of the thread to date. Frankly I don't give a damn whether you think you can hit it 300, 280 or whatever (as an average) and I agree with Oddsocks (not a precedent I intend to repeat) that there were still a few touch responses to his remark that suggest a few egos were in danger of being bruised.

I played with a 15 handicapper at Caversham a few months back. Even though I was having a good driving day for me and was maybe up around the 240 average he was ten yards past me using a 3 wood on every hole. Does it prove anything. No. Do I need to play with any of the guys on here to see them prove themselves no. I don't care. As long as you are good company and I can muster a respectable performance you can rip it miles. I won't be offended but don't expect me to massage your ego either. Hit it find it and hit it again
