REAL Winter driving yardages.....

Hard to say shapewise but it's noticable but there's a few in the 234-235 range and then another few in the 246-248 range which I definitely felt I'd hit more solidly.

.

I have noticed some times that my slice can go a similair distance to my playing partners straight drive..... I cant get my head around why it doesn't rob u of a lot of distance... and it must mean that even if I had hit it well I wouldnt have gained much distance?!?!?!? (because we are normally with in 10 to 15 yrds of each other anyway

Played yesterday and i was driving well, 3 over par for our 12 hole winter course.

I was hitting the driver about 220/230 yards. Bugger me, there was a guy in the group knocking it 30/40yards past me.:(

So all respect to Wull, there are some big hitters out there.

thats my point, trackman reckons 270 carry, driving distances today were around 230, thats 40 yards less than what trackman states my carry alone is. so in summary, do i trust trackman... do i boll*x.

nothing gives real distances like hitting a ball, on a course, in real conditions. im sure direct golf juioce the settings so you buy that new super dupa longer stick.

Can't agree more. Bought a new set of irons from American Golf (rookie mistake) and they had me hitting the 6 iron 175yds. I have never even come close to this, summer or winter.

i made the mistake of forgetting my old big dog for comparrison. i just loked at that magic 270 carry figure and got the credit card out,. learn from your mistakes, but i would never take trackman as the be all and end all... only for guidence.

Freddie boom boom couples plays a fade, and hit can get it out there ok!!

With regards to the measuring comp going on here, I don think it matters what handicap you are to hit it long, I would class myself as a decent ball striker, and pretty long off the tee, no idea what my ave carry is, I can get it out there, I can drive our 300 yard 2nd hole, but I can also leave a wedge in dependant on the day.
However, I played with a lad last week, off 19, (surely not for long), he was putting it 15-20 yards past me, was very interesting to watch.

If I usually average about 235 then add in the heavy air for fog today and the wet conditions in general over winter and I guess I'm going tob e around the 200 mark for the next few months. How happy has that made me feel. Cheers for the confidence boost James.

spot on, being back the warm hair hard fairways and hurricane tail winds....

My trackman stats had my club head speed at 98mph, carry was 200yards ave and total diatance was 211yards ave. All I can say is that there is no way my 6 iron rolls out 11 yards.

do you count all non par 3 tee shots or just those you hit driver or (or is that the same thing?)

Only the drives played with a driver. I hit driver on all 14 holes that weren't par 3's. Admittedly there are a couple of holes that I didn't swing too hard at but nothing worth shouting about.

I went a small place in lisburn called golf ballistix, they specialise in customer fit, shafts, miura products, that sort of thing, its not a shop, you need an appoitment to go, but great service.
Was on the monitor there, swing speed was at 109, launch angle was around 14 deg, spin rate around 2200/2300, it showed my ave carry was at 268.
Now I dont believe it is the same on course as these potential readings have to come from perfect conditions, which cant be replicated on the course.
I guess the trackman info can be fiddled, but it depends where you go.

Probably a 9 iron, not a 6. After a couple of sherbets at lunch time he doesn't know what he's hitting.:D

Fair enough, thats why I struggle with averages because I probably only hit driver 4 or 5 times a round so hard to gauge an average if you use all 14 non par 3s

When will people realise that no matter how far you think you can hit it, you are only a little fish in a big pond. If someone reckons they can carry it 270 consistently, well that's for them to worry about. I wouldnt calm anyone a liar until I could (should I feel the need.......) prove otherwise. What people need to realise though is that golf course have undulations in height which can make a good drive look poor or great depending.
Distance isn't everything, it really isn't. It helps especially if you want to improve, but ultimately it's how many not how.
