Re-Cap on guidance for use of F/S forums

I've no problem with non golf related sales, within reason, when established.

I was thinking of putting the Mrs on, one careful owner, may px for a younger model, cash either way :o :o

Thank god she doesn't read this :p

Smiffy, some newbies on here can rack up 100+ posts in less than 3 days.

That's why I mentioned the "three month membership" as well.... ;) ;)
I think we should get to know somebody (as well as you can in cyberspace) in 3 months and 100 posts. Anybody out for making a quick buck wouldn't hang around that long would they?

just a suggestion if so many people want to sell and buy things that arent golf related why dont you create a new section to the forum for those type of things. im guessing my ipod has been taken off? oh well got an offer anyway :)

I would say the reason for that is that we dont want any old scally turning up selling anything.

The forums could, quite easily, become a hotbed for stolen goods as selling through a forum such as this would leave the goods untraceable pretty much.

I reckon 'time served' forum members only should have use of this board and it should be very strictly moderated.

It doesnt take a genius to work out who's taking the proverbial and who is genuinely selling some old gear for a few extra quid.

My two-penneth.

I for one would not want to see such a section. This is, after all, a golf forum run by a golf magazine to discuss golf. Yes the other sections have broadened the appeal but I think we need to remember the purpose for which this site was created. There are plenty of sites where you can sell other gear and I am in favour of keeping them distinct and separate.

To be honest I've never been a huge fan of this section anyway and certainly don't want to see a general buy/sell section that has no relevance to a golf site (I thought that was what e-bay was for).

I'm not sure how minimum posts, length of time really deals with the issue. There are a number of guys on the forum that have made a spate of early posts that have been succinct at best but they soon rattle up the tally especially as a post in any forum area counts. In theory a poster could get to 100 posts in a week easily. How does that make him anymore trustworthy?

I think it has to be golf related only. I think the majority of the forum have a keen eye for when the post is a bit iffy so lets leave it as is if we need to have a buy/sell section. It all seems to much like hard work to monitor and police otherwise.

Perhaps the Magazine itself could offer a few pages for Specific golf equipment much as Guitar Magazines I've had in the past would have sections for the sale of Guitars, Basses, amps, acoustics.

The Magazine could offer sections for Irons,, putters, sets, Bags, trolleys & Drivers etc.

As for a general swapshop subforum, seperate from the main For Sale & wanted of the Golf related items, then why not. as I think as the credit crunch bites, we in the community might actually gaain someting from being able to seel things we think some of the others might apreciate or find items we may need second hand.

Its a fact of life that times are getting harder.

I wouldn't be saddened by the loss of the for sale section at all, I think it is more trouble than it is worth to be honest. There are enough genuine people on here to be able discuss privatly Via PM or email any goods they have for sale. Yes it would be no good to people desperate to move gear but that is what Ebay is for.

If you were looking for a 3 wood then a post could go up in OOB section saying something like. Wanted.... 3 wood, stiff shaft, good condition, willing to pay upto £100, Pm me if you have anything that matches I may be interested in. The buyer could choose to ignore anything or anyone that he/she feels is not genuine or trustworthy. Anything that is put up advertisng a sale, could be whipped straight off by the Mods to save spamming or Powerselling. Simples!

I personally see no need to ditch the for sale forum. Granted it has caused a few disagreements, however I think that people will be very cautious when committing to a purchase anyway, so are only likely to enter into a sale with a forumer they know reasonably well. That is certainly the case for me anyway, unless the individual has been around a while and added to the forum in a way I would deem reason reasonable I would not trust them in a deal. I have used this section of the forum before with no trouble at all so provided those buying are vigilant in who they buy from I don't see there being a problem. Anyone abusing the site with loads of gear etc can just be banned / have the posts deleted. I for one do not have an ebay account and if I was to sell something this forum could be very useful, and offer a bargain to a fellow forumer at the same time.

I think it should just be kept as it is, with the mods keeping an eye on things and people only buying from members they can trust.

I don't see any point in pulling the for sale part.

Most of the posts are from folks who have contibuted to the site with the small exception

There hasn't been as many "spammers" on in recent months.
Don't know if they got the message or the mods pulled them.

I haven't bought owt,,, yet! but plenty do and I wouldn't mind the chance of the "dream" club cheap or the Scotty that I am trying to convince myself not to get.

Also, no one's bid for HID yet so don't pull it just yet :o :D

I am not really suggesting it go, just wouldnt be bothered if it did.

I have used it a few times and quite like the 'dream club' chance, but just dont want the section being over run.

Problem is, when mods pull things, people spit dummies out!
