As defined by the forum heading, "Buy and sell used GOLF equipment - private advertisers only please"

This isnt a free-for-all swap shop or bazzar for all things unwanted, there are plenty of advertising mediums available for such things.

We are a friendly, happy bunch but rules have been put in place and we are therefore to adhere to them please.

GRAEMBO .... would you send any cash or cheques to someone who has just joined a forum? No, I am sure you wouldn t. I am not saying you shouldnt try and sell ANYTHING I am saying keep it to golf gear like it says on the tin. If a couple of non golfing ads have slipped through then they will be removed also. Stay with it and once folks get to know and see you about on here then they will trust you but you must see it from our point of view that you joined a couple or so days ago and you have tried selling numerous items.

ive been trying to sell the same thing!! The first thread I posted..yes cut it and inform me that I should post a few times before I sell. Wats trust got to do with whether or not Im trying to sell golf stuff!!

Im enjoying the chat on here...some of it is quite insightful and intelligent..Ill stick to the lounge.

Ive mailed Mike about selling my xbox on here anyways.

I personally can't see the problem with non golfing stuff being sold on here....as long as it's from somebody who has been a member for a while.
If I wanted to buy an xbox I would be a bit cheesed off to find that somebody I had met and played golf with via the forum had recently sold one cheaply elsewhere and I didn't even know about it.

The trouble is Smiffy...where does it end? Xbox one week, Ipod the next....then the car, caravan....it could go on, then you get people selling iffy stuff..

This for sale section has caused more trouble for the forum than any other personaly I wouldn't be sorry to see it go.

I am also of the opinion that the for sale section now causes more trouble than it is worth (it has been at the root of all big forum arguments). When the forum was smaller, everyone knew each other to a certain extent and the level of trust built meant that they were happy to do business. No offense meant to any individual but now there are people who have been on the site for a short time looking to sell stuff. Let us not forget that these sales have none of the protection offered by ebay and such like and are wholly dependent on trust on both sides. When I sold a set of irons I sent them before I had received a cheque becuase I had built up a level of trust with the buyer. I for one would not be happy to send a cheque to a stranger without site of the gear or to send gear without payment.
Not sure who agrees but, in my opinion, the for sale section no longer works in practice and I would not be sad to see the back of it.

I think it would be a shame to see it go. As I think that there are some genuine folks on here, (probably most in all honesty). However, would I be happy sending stuff without having the cheque cleared or vice versa? Probably not.

The forum has evoled massively over the last year and a half that I've been knocking around. But with so many folks on here now, I too wonder as to the wisdom of the for sale section.

Shame. As it does give us the opportunity to pick up the occasional golfing bargin.

Undecided!

I am not sure whether this version of the forum will allow it, but you can have features where you cannot post until a certain reputation or post count has been achieved, posting in certain areas such as out of bounds would not count towards the count as anyone can fill a forum with nonsense and this helps pervent it. Hidden post counts would also help.
The For Sale section is a good addition but needs to have rules that must be abided to. For me, this is a golf forum, so selling old or surplus clubs or kit is fine, hawking white goods etc should definately be as it currently is, a big No-No.

A photographic forum that I am a member of has a for sale section where anything can be sold.
To be able to advertise anything for sale you must have made a minimum number of posts (I think it is 100) and have been a member for a certain amount of time (I think it is 3 months).
The for sale section runs perfectly well without any hassles whatsoever.
What makes this forum so different that something like this couldn't be implemented. After all, we have five or six moderators now. Surely one or two of them could be put in charge of the for sale section to oversee it?

Same as Smiffy I am a member of a fishing forum and you can not post at all (to buy or sale) in the for sale section until you have had 100 non spam posts, it stops all the 1 posters trying to edge their bets and save on ebay fees, whilst a lot of stuff for sale on forums is priced at nearly what it is worth you do get the odd bargain and IMO it is nice to give it to another GM member.

I'm only new here, so perhaps I shouldnt have an opinion yet, but I was searching for new gear to buy and saw this.
The same was happening to another forum that I'm on, although to advertise you need a £5 annual subscription to the for sale section.
What they did was introduce a rule where you could advertise as long as there was a picture that you had taken, with a slip of paper also in the picture with your username and the date the advert was posted.
That way we could all be certain that 1. the item exists. 2. it is in the condition described.
This resulted in a much higher satisfaction rate between users of the service!
Just my 2p.

Smiffy, some newbies on here can rack up 100+ posts in less than 3 days. Perhaps we should just let it go but what happens when a trusting buyer never receives the items he has paid for? Does he sue GM or IPC media? We are all being as diplomatic as possible when it comes to noobs flogging stuff but they dont want to follow the 'guidelines' already in place.

For none receipt of goods = visit in the wee small hours with billy baseball bat

I agree. I have nothing against other stuff, but sadly, if it sends folk's golf kit off the page in about 2 days, then it's not much use. :D
