"rare" putter?

Hi all

A mate of mine has been given this putter, which he allegedly thinks is rare..... the head is brass, rather than steel (so I've been told).

Anyone know anything about it? or where I/he could go to find out?

BeCu on the face, I think it's copper rather than brass.

one of the guys in our group still uses one, not sure its that rare.

I don't think its very early ping, therefore unlikely to be worth too much and not really a rarity.

it kinda depends what's etched into the back of the face as to when it originates from could be worth at a guess someways between $60 to $140 (US) depends if drop lucky in finding someone who's looking for that model

the real valuable pings wouldn't be a ping pal but the earlier 'scottsdale answers' particularly the 'gary player' model and the putters prior to scottsdale the very valuable "redwood" putters

becu on the face was originally in color white was the only marking on the putter face at heel side

that refers to beryllium copper which became 'illegal' to use as a material so would tend to show it's an earlier ping pal 4

as recent as 2012 ping discovered they still had at their main depot some still unsold 'new' old putters some answers and pal both magnesium bronze and the becu ones - know of one guy who bought a ping pal 4 becu 'new' old stock from ping for $175 - as far as I know they still have 'new' old stock but it's not advertised any - if folks go through a ping pro who knows their stuff you can still order some 'new' old stock models that were never sold

if you took photo's of the etching in the back the front and the shaft labels (if still there) and emailed then to ping phoenix they should be able to date it

There's 4 or 5 on the 'bay at the minute so not overly rare.

Beryllium Copper (BeCu) as Coach says are the older Ping putters and a material not used any more as the material is, or can become, carcinogenic if polished.

Not rare, per say, just old.

I'd go so far as saying, if someone on eBay says it's rare then it probably isn't. If you've genuinely got a rare club then you wouldn't sell it there!

The really "rare" putter is the one that played a lot but has never missed an 12" putt. I'd pay a fair bit for that...

The age range is identifiable from the Zip Code, and this one appears to be 85068, corresponding to a 1973-2000 model. so not a particularly early model.

The fact that it's BeCu makes it more desirable than others - really soft feel (at least for a Ping!).
