Hi all

Hope to find some help for a query that I'm sure you guys will have more knowledge on :)

I recently noticed that you can get range finder apps for mobiles. However my mobile (a Sony Ericsson) doesn't have GPS so was just wondering if there are any apps that you can use "manually" just like a paper yardage guide?

I noticed that CaddyAidMobile is a free app but do you need GPS or can you use this in a "manual" fashion? :D

Thanks everyone.

IF it's a rangefinder you're looking for, you need GPS in your phone for it to work. Phones with aGPS (assisted GPS) also work but you get charged for using it.

I'd say stick with the paper course guide as they're usually pretty good. Not really sure what benefit you'd get from having one loaded onto your mobile without the advantage of GPS positioning to give you lengths to green/hazards etc.

ps. If possible, get yourself a windows mobile phone or iPhone and use Freecaddie... it really is very good and worth using.

Or a Google Android phone and get Droid Caddie :D

I've just been told by a bloke in the office who knows his mobiles that you may be able yo buy a GPS 'thing' to attache to the phone you have if it isn't too old.

Search GPS and your phone make/model on Google and see what it brings back.

Rangefinder on mobile without GPS? That's what they call a course planner or stroke saver. :D

You can buy bluetooth GPS recievers which you could have in your pocket. You can get these from about £25 upwards. Then you could use your existing phone.
