My local club which for now will remain nameless, has just introduced a local rule banning the use of range finders in competitions. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other clubs that have done this, or is mine the first.

My club did the complete opposite a few years back and made local rule declaring that they COULD be used in comps.

Your clubs approach to this issue is a bit draconian if you ask me. Have they banned ladies too :D :D

UP1.

I think you will find they have not implemented a local rule and that is the problem

The R&A have not legalised them as such they have just given each club the power to implement a local rule allowing measurement devices only, your club must have decided againt it.

Shock horror you will have to play golf the same way people have for the past four hundred years, how will you cope.

i for one hope the r&a make them fully legal, i can say unreservedly they speed up the thought process on each shot,as you have distances to front middle and back there on the screen, its so much better than" its around this far".....
Then you just gotta hit the club that far!
I swear by mine, but am fully aware not everyone thinks like me!

You seem to be coping ok with the latest equipment in your list of clubs , perhaps you should use clubs used 400 years ago lol.

If you can use all the latest exotic material clubs ect , why shouldn't you be allowed to use a GPS , its not like they actually take the shot for you , I use my SG5 on every game I play

We have a local rule that says you can use distance measuring devices, laser or GPS, but not ones that measure wind and slope as well.

I have a laser which I wouldn't be without.

I dont think its a problem using them, but your club hasnt allowed it so no one at your club will use them, so you will have to cope was my point.

I have used them as my club allows but choose not to
