I think if you turn up to the course then you've a duty to play. Fair enough if all want to cancel.

Personally, I would have cancelled or agreed to play before going to the course.

on what basis, for me makes more sense to head to the club and see how bad conditions are, rather than guess a few hours in advance

I'm with you. I'd rather decide at the course where I can see what the conditions are first hand. There were more than a few walking in off the course which clinched it for me.

Was due to play the medal this morning as first group up. Family emergency put paid to that. Ironic that the forecast was for rain to be pelting down before the due start time and yet it would have been dry for at least the first 7 or 8 holes. Bet if I had played it would have tipped it down from the first shot. If we rock up on a Saturday our usual roll up are pretty split on going out in the rain. Some won't ever bother, some will go out regardless. I tend to go out and see what the state is after nine. If it is just a soulless slog, I'm hacking and it isn't fun I'll call it a day. If not carry on and test your game

I played this afternoon with the usual culprits and its was through high winds and squally showers....Played shoite but enjoyed...It was an open singles format....

Tomorrow morning i put my name down with 2 lads that i haven't played with before and its at our own club....

1 of them is off 2 and the other lad is off 17 like me but its supposed to be bad tomorrow too and its a scratch cup (Singles stroke play)...

0-11 handicaps are off the championship tees and 12-17 are off the medal tee's...

I'm looking forward to it but the weather that's due now is making me rethink....But i wouldn't like to let the other 2 lads down either.

Then there is always the question i ask myself....What if even in the crappy weather i manage to rip the course up...

We met up at 8 and it was chucking it down. Quick look at the weather suggested it would improve by mid afternoon so went home, watched the golf for a bit then headed out at 2.00 to play on an empty course. Weird weather, couple of heavy showers interspersed with some brilliant sunshine

I played in a society today. Lashing it down, rivers on the greens etc. I went out in a 3 ball. One guy quit after 6. Me and the other continued and the weather improved greatly after the 10th, so final 8 where a joy. Only got 25 points but I managed to get backspin on the ball for the first time ever! Par on the index 1 and also got a 75 yard pitch from heavy rough into the cup to save par on the 17th. It's the little things that make the a potentially horrid day turn out to be quite nice.
