Although its frustrating, I support the OP's club in this decision. If the course cannot provide a respectable level of FAIR playing conditions why punish people with this.

We played East Sussex at the end of Feb and due to the weather in the previous weeks the rough was very wet. The issue was undulating fairways meant one side of the rough could be very soft and boggy, while the other side would be relatively dry.

It was decided by who ever at the club that any ball in the rough to be marked, lifted, cleaned and dropped within one club length in any rough area. They deemed it unfair for a ball to miss left as an example and be lying ok, yet miss by the same margin right and be in a bog!

just had an email from my club informing us that the first 3 medals (2nd,3rd,6th April) of the season have been cancelled due to the current state of the course (due to the horrible winter) and the forecast for the next seven days.

in the grand scheme of things its going to help the course in the coming weeks buts its so frustrating as I've been looking forward to this week for so long.

if i ever met bad weather down an alley i would kick the sugar out of it

It's been hell out there! I was at the council meeting on Tuesday night and saw snow coming down.
Was up there last night and beautiful sunshine. Went to the depot in Bargeddie today and there's snow on the grass in front of the office!
I'll be up there again tonight and will see how it looks but the courses are just not having time to recover.

It will be a pain if we have to cancel the season opener as it's fully subscribed but it's one we'll have to play by ear.
Looking at the forecast now, it's saying rain to stop about 3am Saturday morning and then no rain till Saturday afternoon. However, who knows how that will change.

I'm quite lucky down south as the majority of courses near me are playable and most have abandoned winter rules already. In times of dire need I've gone to Urban Golf - not the same as outdoors but at least it's golf.

We've been fully open for about six weeks, even last weekend amongst all that rain. Plenty of comps going on and course coming on nicely. Greens coming on and quick for the time of year. Shame I've not been well enough to enjoy it regularly

Aye - your 18th is really struggling with the rain...such a pity as it's a great finishing hole.

It is a great finishing hole, with a great view from the tee. Fairway repair is officially on the "to-do" list. We've just re-done the 17th and that seems to have gone really well so the plan is for the 18th (and a couple of others) to get the same treatment.

Course was opened so Our opening qualifying medal comp was put on but made non qualifying temp tees and greens about so non measured course and fair amount of standing water.
