PW & GW/AW - Same as iron set or different?

I have options

I have my stock PW sitting in the porch (716 AP1)

in my bag I have 46, 50 , 54 , 58 SM5 Vokeys

for the winter I carried both Pitching wedges to see which I preferred and I just found the Vokey came out on top and I preferred the feel

I play 716 ap1s as well, have the pw (43deg), and the w wedge (47deg) in the set. I then go 52, 56 and 60. So technically it's five wedges, however I only use the 3 specialist wedges for half/chip/pitch shots.

I'd rather they just printed the loft on the bottom as opposed to a number, but that's for a different thread...

I find it easier tbh.. all in my head though because in theory my vokeys should be much much harder to hit being blades compared to my cavity backs I just find I have more confidence with them

Pretty much same as me. For some reason I just find my Vokeys inspire confidence.

My 52 used to be a ping tour-w wedge from when I used to play pin S56 irons, but never really hit it that great. As soon as I swapped it for a Vokey to match my 56 and 60 I was spot on with it.

its completely mad isnt it? I clearly dont have the ability to play blades in my irons but in wedges it makes me feel good

Agreed would be much easier and we would then actually no what we are hitting with these new stronger lofts.

id say your set up is 4 wedges as that pitching wedge is a 9 iron really aint it!

Is Delc back posting under a different name?

The number on the bottom is just a reference for the player at the end of the day. Want to know the loft? Check the spec sheets or buy Ben Hogans. As long as you know what club you need to use to hit a certain yardage or shot that's what matters. Could have random words on the bottom at the end of the day. As long as the player knows a hard Spigotbat or soft Clacker is what they need to hit a 140 yard shot into the wind.

If you then find a gap at the bottom go and find the club that fills it.

Recently changed from Wilson Ci-11 to FG Tour V2 and expected to have to club up to hit same yardages due to the Ci-11 having stronger lofts. Was shocked to find this hasn't really been the case for me so the numbers on the bottom are as valid as they used to be for me.

I’m leaning towards getting the PW that comes with the irons as I hit a lot of full shots with my PW but very rarely full shots with SW and LW, and suspect if I bought a GW I wouldn’t hit full shots with that either.

I rarely hit full shots with either SW or LW but frequently do with my GW. It's in the bag to hit a distance. I will frequently use a 3/4 GW rather than a SW but would never use a 3/4 PW instead of a GW.

Btw full power and full shots aren't necessarily the same thing for most people. Even full shot can be misleading because as the shaft gets shorter it's natural to shorten the full swing.

For you guys who have specialist wedges, how do you find hitting full shots with non cavity back wedges?

As all my clubs from 7 downwards are semi muscleback blades I cannot really compare but I reckon on wedges being the easiest clubs to hit anyway I cannot see it being a problem.

I very rarely hit full shots with my 58 wedge, it is mainly carried for bunker play and grassy lies around the greens.

Happy to play with my blade type wedges. Never really hitting them flat out and so always feel like I can make a good swing and control them.
