Hi

I am trying to improve my putting....(like us all).

I use Scoresaver 2 but am wondering if their is any software to record more detailed stats such as length of 1st putt short or long left or right etc.
At the moment I take 2 putts on green in GIR 1.79 for greens missed and 1.85 putts per green. Birdies are rare at the moment?

Any ideas?????

Sunny and warm here in South West France!

Similar stats to mine.

There is always a trade off. If you miss GIR then, if you short game is good, you should get a number of 1 putts therefore reducing putts per green stats. If you hit GIR then you are likely to be in 2 or 3 putt range increasing putting stats.

I've got a feeling that SS2 are looking at more in depth putting stats - maybe Andy will confirm in due course but in the mean time it wouldn't be too difficult to do what you want manually (e.g. using their arrow system and numbers for length etc). In the meantime, if you are hitting GIR, concentrate on leaving the long putts stone dead and sinking the short ones.

I disagree earl, You have to know what areas of the game are weak and SS2 identifies those readily. I agree there is perhaps a gap as it doesn't record if you are leaving 20 footers short and three putting or missing from close in. Once a problem is identified the solution (in this case a putting lesson imo) will lead to an improvement in stats and scoring

So at what point of your stat status do you practice your putting 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 or do you just practice anyway ?

My own personal opinion less time studying stats more time practicing will improve your putting ;)

Earl

Thanks for that ...on average I practice for 3-4 hours a week and I concentrate mostly on wedge down to putter.

I am playing well but feel I am just not scoring...currently off 10.5.

Thanks again

My dad always said to me that if I was'nt putting well, it was because I did not get the approach shot close enough. I always make sure I am well up to the pin on my approach.

Just a thought - Are your approach shots past the pin or are they short because you have not taken enough club?

I happen to practice my putting fairly regularly but I guess it is down tot he individual. The OP has stated a desire to improve and SS2 gives you a putting average based on your handicap. I guess if that average is close to or above your handicap recommendation then it is time to look at getting the figure down

I have a similar situation for my last three rounds..

My handicap is 17..

GIR @ 39% ( handicap standard 7 )
Putts per round @ 36.33 ( handicap standard 21 )
Par scrambles @ 9% ( handicap standard 26 )

OK, so I'm ok at GIR, but anyway you look at it my short game is pants. Funny that because I spend 90% of my time on the practice ground on my long game !!

I think you are confirming the point I was making earlier.

Your main practice is long game which is giving you very good GIR stats. 39% GIR is great :) but means that non GIR is 61% :(.

More short game practice is possibly required. The occasions that you miss the green are the times when a good chip leaving a single putt are par savers.

When you hit GIR, is your putting good enough to leave the ball stone dead or are you likely to 3 putt?

Thanks for the note.

My chipping generally leaves me with a putt inside 15 foot, I give myself a chance at the save, but generally need a great putt.

Therefore, more chipping practice require allied with putting practice.

I played in a competition on Sunday with a net 69 ( CSS 70 ), but I left so many shots out there by not saving Par when I am just off the green.

My putting stats are....

Putts per green hit is 2.10
Putts per green missed is 1.97

Practice...Practice...Practice ( perhaps then I will get lucky !! ).

Try this for stats
Add up the length of every putt you hole on each green.
Over 60 feet is good
Also
Add this to fairways hit and Gir will give you a good idea of how well you are playing.
So if your score card reads
1. Y, N, 3, 4 that means
Y you hit the fairway Good drive
N you missed the green Poor second shot
3 you holed a 3 footer Good chip
4 was your gross score Good rescue
