does anybody use the eyeline mirror putting device??

as an avid Deve Pelz fan, iv been trying this device over the last couple weeks and i cant for the life of me agree with him on the pure pendulum stroke-straight back and straight through without manipulating the club.
can anybody do this stroke???
im finding it very difficult to get my shoulders to move up and down the line without them rotating artound my spine(which is what they should naturally do) therefor giving me a slightly "screen door swing"
although i agree with the concept of what pelz is saying the only way i can get my shoulders to do what he suggests is to have my upper body in a very uncomfortabole position.

I teach that the putter starts off on a straight path then naturally comes inside. The same on the through stroke...straight at first then comes to the inside.

I have a straight back and through stroke when I use a mallet putter, I achieve this by widening my elbows if you get what I mean. Imagine the gap between your arms at the elbow is, say, 8-10 inches. Just widen that gap to 12 inches, and keep this position of your arms fixed throughout the stroke.
When using an Anser style putter I tend not to hold this shape as much, and let the putter take a more arced path.
I haven't read Dave Pelz so I hope this kind of refers to what you mean't, If im giving really bad advice im sure someone will soon correct me.

Aaaggghhhhh, no don't do the "chicken wing".

If your arms aren't hanging freely then you have to be holding them in that position and that is very hard to repeat.

Isn't the way Sam Torrance putts the closest thing to a truly pendulum stroke?? Even then he can't quite get his broom handle vertical so there is a certain amount of "face rotation". (Don't like Pelz's stuff so hard to use that phrase )

I think the longer the putt, the harder it is to come straight back and through but over a shorter distance it is certainly possible.

If I remember rightly Steve Stricker putts straight down the line, he does this by tipping the putter up on it's toe (putter heel off the ground).. this keeps the face open as the putter goes past the impact point.

He is one of the best putters in the world so it's hard to knock the technique... but it's not something that really comes recommended. Maybe if your greens are 12 on the stimp you could try it :D

Come to think of it, he goes 'heel up' on his broom handle aswell.

My wife got me this for Christmas http://www.improvemygolf.co.uk/acatalog/Pathfinder_Putting_System.html and its been a real challenge to get the club back and through without hitting any pegs. I seem to have a slight out swing on the takeaway as I always hit the far back peg but manage to get it coming through square. It works great for putts up to about 8-10 feet but then anything over that there is a natural need to come inside as you would on an full swing.

My advice would be to check your position and make sure you are over the ball. Make sure you aren't moving the legs as you swing and if you need help in rocking the shoulders look at the v-easy. I swear by mine. I tend not to use it in conjunction with the pathfinder (too much to thinka about for my tiny brain) but hit some putts with the v-easy alone and really feel the shoulder rock and focus on not breaking the wrists.

I do have the eyeline http://www.118golf.co.uk/Practice-Puttin...88bd60pd201.htm in my locker to use on the putting green but tend to take the rails off and just use the mirror part.

sorry mate, thats a deffo no-no, my arms are always pretty tight to my chest when i put.

its just annoying me that everytime i look in that mirror i see my shoulders rotating, Gggrrrr

homer thats pretty much the same idea as im using.

im going to let the putter arc slightly cos it isnt going to work the pendulum way.

sam torrance will get apurer pendulum stroke because of the limited use of his shoulder and the more upright [position of his body, i use an normal anser style putter

I'd been using a mallet and trying for ages to have a straight back and through. Trouble is, in avoiding the natural inside travel I started taking the putter back straight outside the target line....not good i.m.o.

I now have a blade putter and a Yes! golf trueplane training aid. In an odd way, I don't know why they called it a "trueplane", my putter was on plane from the first moment I used it.....it followed the black line to the mm :)
BUT, what it does help with is allowing the putter to come inside back and through and also there are lines to show how open/closed the face should be through the stroke. Maybe it should have been called truePATH?

It is an ace gadget.....20 minutes on this and my action is much improved.

Trouble is the cost, I got one for a few quid... :) :D
