.....so why do I find it the hardest!

I mean it's not difficult is it, a flat stick to move a ball along the ground in a chosen direction, I mean how difficult is that?

a child can do it, an OAP that's never played golf can do it, so why do I find all putts with any putter is a clunky inconsistent strike:(

It's such an individual thing and each persons putting set up is like a signature, almost unique.

I need to do something drastic to get to the point that putting really is the easiest and most consistent part of my game......but where to begin:confused:

A change of putter maybe ?

I went out with 4 tonight just on the putting green, 2 mallets and 2 blades.............they are lucky to be back in my house, nearly left them there in disgust...............I lined up a 10 foot uphill putt and after an hour I'd holed 4.................FOUR FFS!

Never a truer word was spoken. The concept of putting is extremely simple. Pick a line, pick a pace and hit the ball.

My guess is we put more pressure on ourselves through expectation than any other part of the game. Probably because there are no reasons why we shouldn't be good at it.

Have you thought about learning Aimpoint?

The difference between being a winner and loser - - at any level..."..

im regularly 2 shots to get 400 yds, then another 3 shots to get 30 feet......

drives me bonkers

Maybe it's something simple ? Possibly video yourself putting or ask a pro ?

A big part of it is MENTAL. You have to believe you can hole the putt otherwise your writing yourself off before you even start. Don't think there is one method/style of putting per se, but the things that have helped improve my putting dramatically over the last 6 months are;

1. ONE putter only! Find one and stick with it.
2. Keep your head still through the stroke.
3. Hit it positively and firm.

I feel your pain but with that handicap you can't be that bad. The only club in my bag I've bought new is the custom built putter from Clubmasters. I've had it a couple of months and there are some positive signs. The club you use the most has to be worth a full custom build?
Good luck putting is a game within a game and I find your honesty refreshing........

It may just be possible that you struggle with your non-dominant eye skewing your aim. It could be that you need to learn to aim 'properly.' - Not explained very well... I suggest you Google "aiming eye." There are exercises that you can do that will train your eye/brain to work better together.

certainly when I drop a ball from the bridge of my nose its usually closer to me and further right than where the putter head is

going up 0.1 every time, saturday I probably missed 2 fairways and 4 greens, then a chip and 2 or 3 putts makes it easy to shoot 84

The dominant eye could be worth looking at (excude the pun)! I am right eye dominant and some time back lined my putter head up to my intended line - turned my head to the hole, shut my left non dominant eye and saw through my right eye peripheral vision that in fact the putter head was aiming way open/right to target - crazily so. I was missing putts left so must have been closing the face or pulling them as my brain registered the mis-cue (perhaps). Gradually I found my aim through both eyes improved as the right signals got through BUT tend to always check this alignment a few times a round.

Now if I could get the pace right

CMAC. I went from a very confident putter to someone who's stomach knotted when stood over a 6 foot putt. I changed putters, shortened them, lengthened them, tried all the different grips but things just got worse.

I came across the following Video and tried it (What did I have to lose) My putting improved drastically, I am now stood over putts with my old confidence again. I find the method locks my arms and wrists and just allows me to focus on the weight of the putt.

Maybe you should try it. What have you to lose!

Try putting through alignment rods on a straight putt, that's just wider then your putter and the tips of the rods are either side of the hole. This will show if your putter blade is square to the hole and also you can see the path of the putter going back and through by using the rod nearest to you. Hold your position at the end of the stroke to see what the face is doing.

I could not putt for toffee a while back, I even had a lesson and I was told that there was nothing wrong with my technique. My head was over the ball, I had a nice smooth stroke, I wasn't stabbing at it etc etc, For some reason though I could never get the pace which then made me start swinging it with no confidence and missing everything, even putts from 2 foot away.

I liked the way my putter felt (oddysey 2-ball), but I got out of the cupboard my old PING ZING putter and I was just the same. So along comes my answer to what maybe your problem.......... get custom fitted.

I was lucky to get one from the forum last year and after the putter was fitted to me I have not looked back since. It now saves me 4/5 shots a round instead of costing me them. After they had tweeked this putter to me I was getting a fantastic roll, no skipping when the ball leaves the putter face and now I would take anyone on at a putting competition. Don't just take my word for it ask pokerjoke. He partnered me 2 years ago at Woodhall and also did this weekend, he would back up how much my putting has improved since getting fitted.

so it appears my eyes are nowhere near over the ball....

I can do the two tees drill and stay in-between them but the face must be open or closed with angle and not square and flat to the ball and target line, alignment sticks and the clunky mis-hits affirm that......

Going back to basics as I used to feel I could hole anything which makes the long game easier, now I just don't want to 3 putt:(

Cack handed is the way forward! I really struggled with my putting previouslt, and felt like I'd tried everything. Was mucking about on the practice green one night and holed a great deal more putts than normal putting cack and have continued to go left over right ever since. Its a bit iffy from 4 ft when youre bouncing them in right enough.

funnily enough I tried that for a couple of rounds and the strike and solidness of the putt is way better, again affirming something fundamentally flawed in my 'normal' stroke.

I can't get comfortable with cack handed and feel is off so I'd rather work on fixing the normal stroke that worked before, rather than, in my eyes, give up on it.
