I believe putting is 40% feel, 40% confidence and for those who haven't got either.............a V easy

Here we go again!!
;)

Oyy you, I never said that !!!
You're putting words in my computers mouth
I've been very restrained recently

Try this Rob...
Find a 3 foot putt you know is a straight. With no bobbles, bumps or slopes.
If you miss from 3 feet, it must be your stroke, not the greens' fault or a bad read or you hit it through the break.
1. Stand with your feet 3 inches apart and dont let the putter head go beyond your right toe, then gently accelerate through to the hole.
Or,
2.Place another ball about 6-8 inches behind your target ball and stop the backswing before you hit the other ball. It sounds to me as if you are being too tentative on the short ones. This drill will help you feel more positive over the stroke. :)

I like this one

Another quick question.

I often find that I slightly wobble the putter on the backswing of the short putts, causing a pulled putt.

Is this because I grip the club too tight ? or too soft ? Or I take the club back too fast ? Or I'm using too much hands and not enough shoulder ?

It's literally as I initially move the putter head, and no matter how much I physically try not to do it, once it has started, it just won't stop.

Exactly what I said.....

Create a stable platform - feet nicely spread, weight equal on both.
Make sure you stand with your eye directly over the ball, and I make sure I stand tall enough so that when I grip the putter, it 'hangs' comfortably just a smidge off the grass, or touching it, and essentially becomes a 'pendulum' as an extension of my arms/hands.
Then its just a matter of stroking the ball with absolutely no other movement other than the gentle pendulum swing of your arms /putter.

Yes, but you said it with much more eloquence :)

I use this little gizmo all the time. It does everything you need. There is a putting rail to give you confidence to make a staright back stroke (I usually take it off) and a mirror to make sure your head and shoulders are correctly positioned. You can put two tees at the front through which the blade will pass only if you are presenting the club squarely through impact. It also has a number of holes behind the ball in which you can put a tee to restrict the backswing.

I use it at the beginning of a putting session to make sure the basics are right and then again to hole 10 three-four footers in succession (on a flattish lie) starting again if I miss one. It has helped my game a lot.

Crikey  that's some SERIOUS putting eqipment. How bad do you need to be putting to buy one of those :D :D :D :D

Smiffy... nowt wrong with your putting from what I can see. If you are 3 putting from 8 feet then take your foot off the gas and stop knocking them 3 feet past, 2 foot should be enough :D, Nothing that 10 min putting practice before you play won't fix. Didn't think your putting was bad at Chartham considering all the footprints :D :D the greens there were a couple of feet faster than they looked for sure. Jumping between fast greens/slow greens is never condusive to good putting.
Line up, stroke the ball at the hole...pick it outta the cup :D

I use Handycap's method!

On long putts, I set up next to the ball and practice swing looking at the hole....not the ball.

The idea came from an old boy (ex pro) who also liked standing behind the ball looking at the line/hole (90 degrees if you like) as another method.

Once I step up the ball, I use the tip from Leadbetter's books of looking ball-hole-back at ball....hit....in a rhythmical way.
