a few of my friends went for the Huntington Beach range. Aggressively milled face, feels nice and a really good quality head cover. The older ones are as aggressively milled so maybe feel a touch softer but either way you wouldn't be disappointed

I recently started playing.. maybe 6 months ago. I inherited some Ben Sayers m7 clubs which are battered. I will eventually get myself some callaway irons but for now I feel that the horrible putter is the worst club in my bag.

Putters are very personal and so what suits your eye and feels good. If you fancy an eye opening experience, try and get a SAM putting fitting and learn exactly what you do in the stroke, May give you an idea what type of putter is best suited to your stroke

I've posted elsewhere on here about recently buying a mate's four year-old Ghost Spider S on nothing more than a whim. I have putted with a very ordinary Ping Sedona for the previous 20 years. It's a dead simple blade without even a line-up mark.

I've always putted reasonably with the Ping and laughed like a drain at my mate when he bought the Ghost originally. However four weeks on and the Ghost is a revelation. I'm holing left right and centre with it.

We're both pretty short and he was fitted for the Ghost with a 33" shaft and that's the secret I'd say. The Ping is 35" and doesn't 'sit' anywhere near as naturally behind the ball for me. The Ghost is just so easy to swing smoothly and the line-up line is an amazing confidence builder.

So my advice is that it doesn't necessarily have to be an 'upgrade' as such and in my oown case it was simply a change.

Putters can be a bit in more depth than people realise. You can have toe weighted or face weighted putters, and any variation in between, and it's all aimed at people with different putting strokes.

If you can, get a fitting, as that'll tell you what stroke you putt with and the fitter will give a better idea.

If not, you need to hit up somewhere you can try them all out, all different kinds of heads (mallet, blade etc), different faces (milled or insert) and different weights.

It's more in-depth than that Homer. Depends how anal you want to be.

I had a Quintic fitting about 18 months ago and that was a real eye opener.

Go to your nearest American Golf store and try as many styles as you can! Mallets, Blades, Centre shafted (tough to find in my experience), with/without inserts, with/without grooves and in various lengths - most are 35", but that's often too long. There's a few other variations too, but that's enough for now!

One (style) will feel and work 'right' and that's the one that will likely be the best on the course!

Btw.
The search for the magic flatstick will never stop!

Even if you don't get fitted, make sure you try before you buy if possible and ideally on a grass putting green. Whatever you go with I hope you find something that works. Its such a key part of the game you need something that gets it in the hole.
