You will see from my kit that I have been lucky enough to benefit from the pureing process.
Having had them for a year I have some experience to draw on.
If I am honest, the noticeable difference to me is with the woods. My irons and wedges are all the same swingweight and shaft but has the pureing helped hmmmmm not sure.
The process is essentially vibrating a shaft to find its best plane of effectiveness and then fitting it into the head at its optimum direction.
When I went to be fitted I queried the benefits and the fitter took me to the pureing machine,he put my new Driver in with the face square and it vibrated on one plane. When he put my old one in it went in a figure of 8 and when turned to vibrate on one plane the face was pointing at the floor!!
The nearest analogy, by comparision, would be the balancing of a car tyre. Every golf shaft ever made has irregularities, those irregularities cause bending and twisting in the shaft during your golf swing. This can result in mis-hit shots that are the fault of the equipment, not your swing.
In use by over 250 US Tour Pros, the patented and USGA-approved SST PURE® process of club assembly uses proprietary computer analysis to locate each shaft's irregularities and aligns the shaft to neutralize them, so that each club bends in the direction it should - straight down the target line.
Spined or pured, same difference. The guy who 'invented' it reckons there is no benefit at all in doing 7 irons and down, but there is a benefit in the longer clubs (6 and up).
I guess it would give you a consistent performance through the set, but obviously if you have an inconsistent swing, there is no benefit at all.
I wouldn't bother getting it done retrospectively, if you haven't really noticed any difference in your current line up. If however, you can hit your 3 iron really well, but struggle with the 4, then this may help.
I was going to ask why higher end manufacturers are not offering pured sets (woods or irons) but I suppose they have to be fitted before they are pured - no?
Yes they do, but also as the benefits are minor, most players wouldn't notice, and it is expensive to do. This is why it is a good idea to try before you buy (especially drivers) and buy the one you hit, not another one off the shelf or from a different retailer.
