Heading up to Sheffiel to see a gig in a few weeks. Going to be staying over so wondered if there were any recommendations for decent pubs in or around the centre and any places worth going for a late lunch or early evening meal.

Where are you staying in Sheffield, the city centre is quite big?
I haven't been out there for years but my mate goes up often and drinks around the city hall and west street iirc.
My cousin swears by Kelham Island which I believe is a group of good ale pubs all clustered in one place and a nice canal side setting, it's just on the outskirts of the city centre but not too far.

Not been myself but was recently recommended a restaurant called Joro.
Apparently it's in a group of building made from old containers - supposed to be good food, good wine list and a rather hip place to be seen - I think it's Skandinavian influenced.

Not booked a hotel yet, just about to but they are all described as City Centre locations. Will be going to the O2 Academy to watch Pop Will Eat Itself.

Kelham is the place for good ales, as for food depends on what you want the Milestone\millstone is a good restaurant but not sure if its open at lunchtime .A short walk from Kelham is the cutlery works , a bit like a food court with bars not a bad selection of asian and other selections and a few little bars dotted about but a bit spread around .
In the city center there is a few decent places but not been in for a while . Leopold square in the center is good , very good in fact with a few eateries like Aakbars , an Itallian and a Cuban .
Where are you going in Sheffield as this can be a decider ?

Going to the O2 Academy but happy to get cabs around if necessary.

O2 is t'uther side of town iirc, tucked away on a backstreet. I'd recommend food and beer near kelham island then taxi to the O2 as it's a fair old trek between the two. We stayed a short walk from the O2 about 8 years ago and there's nowt around there now, no bars and eateries as such.

Thanks, that helps a load. Will stay in town and cab it.

The Novotel is near the O2 and if i recall rightly backs on the Crucible\Lyceum area a couple of bars but nothing special some palatable food places but as Beezerker says Kelham is a pretty good area with a good few pubs , The Fat cat and a few more modern types ( you will know what i mean if you go in the cat :)) If you google the fat cat there are a few bars on the lane it is on Green lane i think its called

Hi

I live / work in Sheffield.

The O2 is in the city centre, bang opposite the Crucible Theatre (Is not down a side street - Leadmill /Corporation are)

Whilst Kelham Island is great for trad ales (Fat Cat pub) it is a fair walk from the City Centre - taxi required.

In the centre there are plenty of eating places within 5-10 mins of O2. Re pubs, there are a good selection on either Division Street or West Street. Slightly nearer the O2 is All Bar One on Leopold Street and opposite is the Leopold Square food area.

The Devonshire Cat serves a good range of beer n food.

Hope this helps.

Rich
