Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

In recent months we have seen a number of players showing some anger issues

There was some “hot” debate about Clark hitting a hoarding

Since then we have seen Koepka smash a tee marker into the crowd , Garcia smash his driver on a tee snaping it with the head in a diffrent direction, even seen a player stamping on his clubs as well as multiple players reacting to crowds with expletives and anger

Lot of requests for Clark to be punished in some quarters ( and was punished by Oakmont)

I know if they break a club through anger they can’t replace

But should there be some code of conduct in regards club violence ?
I agree there should be.

It's become quite prevalent, i.e. McIlroy, MacIntyre, Jaeger etc.

Love this. Bryson used a non-conforming 'straight flight' golf ball in one of his practice rounds. Who else would do that?? He is one of a kind. 😂

So the round before a major he is playing around with non conforming balls and then wonders why he has issues in his first round

You are right - no one else would be doing that

Maybe it’s worth doing less tinkering at times

I don't think he actually played the whole round with them, it sounds more like he hit a few shots with them here and there, that's all. On the other hand you can say it shows how relaxed he is with him game that he can afford to have a bit of fun on his pre-major practice rounds.

Maybe he has got to the stage where it’s going to be a choice

Forget all the you tube stuff and interactions and concentrate fully on winning majors

Or be relaxed and have that engagement but potentially have it cause issues within the majors

He certainly seems to have that tinkering personality about him

Pretty sure BDC said he was looking to develop a ball to suit hs game - how else can you do some accurate research other than testing a ball with the characteristics you are looking for back to back against his usual Pro V1.

Yes, he's always been someone who tries to get an edge when it comes to technology and so on and is happy to experiment. But you're talking like he's in the middle of a crisis - he just had three unbelievable rounds of golf, but one that didn't go his way and stopped him being in contention. He has won a major since launching the YouTube channel and being on LIV. He seems to be managing everything absolutely fine.

No crisis at all - he did have 3 great rounds , but it’s not 4 , he did the same at Augusta - 3 great rounds

It needs to be 4 great rounds

He will challenge in majors - he is a top player , than doesn’t matter which tour he is in

But when it comes to a major he and along with anyone else needs to be 100% focused on that major

The social media stuff could easily be a distraction or reduce focus

Have you considered that the "antics" help him relax and maintain focus?

I agree social media can become a distraction, but only if it's taking him away from practising or taking him outside his comfort zone. Loads of players tinker and try out different clubs during practice rounds, all he's doing differently is filming it. At the moment, BdeC is probably the 3rd most popular golfer in the world (2nd most popular at the Open), he is good for the game.

Yep every chance it may help him

No idea about popularity - if that’s someone’s aim to be popular then that’s all good

I look at Faldo - he was very unpopular as golfer because he was tunnel visioned into being successful

Scheffler is the best in the world right now and a machine winning championships but is being called boring etc

There are many popular sportstars - it’s very rare they are also the very best in the sport

If he finds the balance then good luck to him

With LIV having the shorter season maybe he will end up doing the social media in the off season where it’s not affecting any competition or majors etc

Bryson wants to develop irons that go straight all the time, a driver that anyone can hit straight, a ball that always goes straight. I think if he had his way, golf would just be a pure strength contest. It's a very odd attitude to have. I get that people like his tinkering etc, but he's also very quick to blame equipment when it doesn't work.

Popular players are good for the sport. They bring in viewers, sponsors, increases uptake at grass roots level. Individually, being popular doesn't help win tournaments but does help earnings through endorsements etc.

At the moment there's only 2 golfers who transcend the sport: Rory and Tiger. I don't think Bryson's got to the stage yet where he is recognised outside of golf.

I think it would be interesting to hear this from a US perspective. I suspect he is pretty big over there, but I don't know how big? Does he break out of golf only?

They are good for sponsers etc but look at Scheffler - he does very little if any social media interaction

If someone is just concerned about earnings then they will market themselves to death

Being totally engrossed in winning is a different mentality

Not many take up golf due to watching professional golfers anymore - most of that comes from local golf clubs and pro’s etc

Most watching professionals etc are already in golf in some way

With the current situation BDC in the US is prob split between those that are hard core PGAT fans won’t watch a thing of his and the hard core LIV fans

You see a mirror of it on social media

He has been marmite for a while even before LIV

He's different though and people notice different. He's not just another golfer, 'he's the weird guy' (I don't mean that in a negative way)

Know exactly what you mean - he is very much different to others within the sport , some will love it and some won’t

He is noticed around the sport but don’t think he transcends outside the sport in the way Woods did , Rory sort of has
