Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

Again, media duties are part of the job of being a professional sportsperson, and those responsibilities increase for those who are successful and earn immense wealth.
They wouldn't have their immense wealth without it, nor would they trade their immense wealth to be rid of it.

Some people need to have a listen to what Jack Nicklaus had to say about it.
Also seems some people have got far too used to listening to PGA Tour approved cheerleaders from CBS & Sky interviewing players rather than actual journalists.

Media duties are not compulsory

Rory has spoken to the media significantly over the course of his career

The journalist isn’t the reason why he earns money , his talent is , the people that want to watch him play is what brings in the money - does it get paid to speak to a journalist

not sure what CBS or PGAT or Sky specifically have to do with it

You'd have a point, if he got paid per interview.

But, as he doesn't, you are really making no sense whatsoever. Just typing words to have a cheap dig

Had to laugh at Colt Knost yesterday claiming it wasn't the medias fault Rory's suspect driver got reported in the media, but the two guys who leaked it to the media.

Phrases and words such as code of conduct, ethical, morals... spring to mind

Yeah but this is journalists were talking about......2nd only to Politicians....

I heard Jack Nicklaus talk about media responsibilities during the Memorial and I agree with him. I also think he's right about on course interviews being a huge intrusion.

Wonder if Jack would think the same if he was playing in the modern era of the wall to wall media scrutiny

It was prob significantly easier in his day

It’s a little bit different now with the demands

But then that’s just one persons opinion

To me it’s time for the media to be dialled back

The stuff that some come out with go beyond just how many shots he hits during the round - too many go personal and I think he has decided that it’s time to protect himself and speak when he feels it’s right

Much as I admire Jack and his achievements some of the guff he comes out with is precisely that....guff!.

I share his views on the intrusive nature of the on course interviews but I also feel that the players have every right to decide for themselves if they want to face the media in the aftermath of their round.

And, in any event, what purpose do these serve , laden as they are with clichés and no actual meaningful comments.

Rory finally fronts up to the skipping press at PGA

Still has an absolute bee in his bonnet and can see him skipping post round press conferences for the foreseeable

think he’s being a bit of a prick tbh and I’m the biggest fan

I get the US Open and even the Masters and supporter him but skipping all 4 because they dropped your name and not Scottie’s about the non conforming driver haway son

Just watched it, very entertaining. Course looks broootal 😱

From what he said I think he is spot on

The media at times need to look at themselves

His reasons for not bothering with the media where fine

The US media said zip about Schefflers driver when they knew that also failed

Rory was in a no win situation - there are still US media accusing him of using an illegal driver to win the Masters

Oh i think he’s far from happy with the media probably stems from the whole coverage of his split with the missus etc

I suspect you are just picking up a select few bits form his interview. He states the long days, wanting to relax, see his kid, etc so not all about the driver.

There were some passable excuses but the final one for the sunday and the excuse that he wanted to get on the plane and out of there was poor.

There’s more to it than just a few post round conferences for sure I think

This sound like absolute BS to me, something he added in to take away the driver heat he was getting.
Oh poor Rory, wants to see his kids etc 😢 don’t we all want to get home early to see our kids?
Yeah I’m being harsh but I just don’t buy all that BS.
Btw I love Rory as a player just not how huffy he can be.

Doing media is absolutely part of being a professional sports person. It goes with the job. It's the media that promote the sport, they need each other.

Think the key part is needing each other

If the media overreach then it’s needed for them to be brought back down a little and a player cutting off for a little can only be a good thing

I have never heard anything worthwhile or enlightening come out of the post round interviews.

Just the routine "My putting was good/poor", "the course was playing long", rubbish.

Certainly nothing that promotes the game of golf.

If you want that then it will only come from in depth one on one interviews with journalists who have researched their subject.

Agree.
And this whole saga is being stoked by the media (professional and social) because the media didn’t get their own way
