Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

Bryson’s practice round of Oakmont is fantastic viewing. The most interesting golf YouTube video I’ve ever seen - shows how tough Oakmont will be (though the greens aren’t a patch on how tough they’ll likely be for the US Open).

Got me v interested and looking forward to the US Open, and with a decent knowledge of the holes etc 👍🏻

Rory finally fronts up to the skipping press at PGA

Still has an absolute bee in his bonnet and can see him skipping post round press conferences for the foreseeable

think he’s being a bit of a prick tbh and I’m the biggest fan

I get the US Open and even the Masters and supporter him but skipping all 4 because they dropped your name and not Scottie’s about the non conforming driver haway son

From what he said I think he is spot on

The media at times need to look at themselves

His reasons for not bothering with the media where fine

The US media said zip about Schefflers driver when they knew that also failed

Rory was in a no win situation - there are still US media accusing him of using an illegal driver to win the Masters

I suspect you are just picking up a select few bits form his interview. He states the long days, wanting to relax, see his kid, etc so not all about the driver.

Sportspeople plays game
Sportspeople decides not to talk to the media afterwards
Media gets upset...oh dear, how sad, never mind...move on

Who, in the cold light of reality, gives a damn....?
Apart from the media...?
If we've got nothing better to talk about than this complete non story to everyone except a few journos then we're better off not talking about anything....

Fronting up to the media is part and parcel of elite sports. Those who rail against it are welcome to find a different career, or deal with the blowback from their tantrums.
Behaving like an arrogant, entitled brat isn't going to make the media go away, avoid the big issues, or only ask pre-approved/easy questions.

Or he can just carry on playing golf and ignore the media and those desperate to stick knives into successful people

Image someone wanting to go and see his daughter instead of speaking to someone who wanted to accuse him of something

He doesn’t need to find a different career because he is not required to speak to the media

Yeah that’s not going to happen 😆

What absolute drivel.

I think everyone can agree McIlroy does his fair share of media. For some people, far too much.

If he, or any other player, decides they don't want to do an interview, what are you harping on about them finding a new career? Pretty sure they'll still be good enough to qualify to play in golf tournaments. Pretty sure they can use social media if they really want to put their point across. Mainstream media can't just do as they please all the time and expect the players to do exactly what they say. If journalists are not behaving in the manner expected from them, or if players have other issues going on that means they are not in the right frame of mind to be grilled by media (for playing a game), then sometimes the player might skip an interview. Big deal!

Or is is some fans that are the arrogant, spoilt brants, that feel entitled that sports people do exactly as the media please?

That being said, I'm sure McIlroy would be pleased to get your advise on how to deal with the media :ROFLMAO:

I thought his explanation/reasons seemed fair enough (although the cynic in me thinks if he'd shot 64 on Thursday instead of 74 he'd probably have given them a few minutes)

Over in Amsterdam I'm wondering if Gouveia and Ramsey are playing a different course to everyone else...
8 under after 13 and 6 under after 11
Plus play suspended due to lightning just as the TV coverage starts..🙄

Again, media duties are part of the job of being a professional sportsperson, and those responsibilities increase for those who are successful and earn immense wealth.
They wouldn't have their immense wealth without it, nor would they trade their immense wealth to be rid of it.

Some people need to have a listen to what Jack Nicklaus had to say about it.
Also seems some people (and players) have got far too used to having PGA Tour approved cheerleaders from CBS & Sky interviewing players rather than actual journalists.

Why do you care..?

I heard Jack Nicklaus talk about media responsibilities during the Memorial and I agree with him. I also think he's right about on course interviews being a huge intrusion.
