Professional Golf 2024 & 2025

How would you (safely) get 30-40 thousand spectators out of a golf course in the dark. You’d have to illuminate way more than just the three holes, right the way to the car park exits etc & it would still take hours to empty them

Although I'm half expecting Mel Smooth to suggest they should build a moveable roof over the course, just in case. I'm sure it'll only cost a few thousand :ROFLMAO:
Mel seems to think a couple of mobile floodlights from HSS would be good enough.

Why not play proper night golf and put some glow sticks out to line the fairway and use glow in the dark balls?

Lol... Yeah Rory must've done something in the past... Maybe ruined a good coupon or similar..
I think it's fair to say Rory isn't Bob's cup of tea....
I get that, I've got a mate who doesn't like him either.. He doesn't go out of his way to constantly construct a 'bottler' narrative though.
You really think I'm the one who first started the bottler narrative?! Away from this forum it's a common opinion. I don't like or dislike him

Id say 20, 30 max for those three holes - to complete the flagship event of a tour valued at 15 Billion dollars, on time.

Lets remind ourselves wha floodlit golf looks like.

The premise of floodlit playoffs etc is fine, but you'd have to make the event a day night affair I think, as opposed to having floodlights on standby on the off chance of a long day with a play off

So how do you logistically work it to get enough light for the 16th , 17th and 18th

It’s fine doing in Riyadh where it’s just desert and the night sky is bright and there is little amount of fans in the way

How do you light up Sawgrass

This is sport for entertainment and thousands of ordinary people have paid a lot of money to be there on Sunday to see someone win the trophy, not to mention sponsors and broadcasters - if there is a way of getting it done on the day, they should do it. After all, they've driven cars up to the greens at tournaments (even majors) before now in order to get them finished on the day.

If any tour venue could and should have permanent floodlights, particularly on the closing holes, it's the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

Also, if the PGA Tour had floodlights on the last few holes every week, they would also virtually eliminate the weekly shambles of not getting everyone round the course on the first two days.

With floodlights 🤷 same as anywhere else. Making it light enough isn't the issue.

It’s amazing how people suddenly think floodlights is the answer for one off issues when there has a been an event recently with floodlights

Im just shocked it wasn’t thought off before 🙄

You're just being silly. It's FLOOD light as in it floods the area with light. Not a light you use when there is a flood.
You know this.

Umm yes im aware and believe you are missing the point 🙄

The green is surrounded by water

Where are you putting the lights on the course to enable enough light to go across to a green in the middle of a lake and around tees that are surrounded by stands with very little area to move

Maybe someone can invent a post they could be put on top of 😅
By all means discuss the merits of floodlit golf, but pretending you can't light up sawgrass with modern floodlight tech is just making you look silly.

I can only guess you haven’t seen the make up of the 16th green , 17th tee and green to see how little space there is to shove some pilons down to ensure there is enough light without compromising the viewing for the spectators - it’s far feom easy

There is a reason why when ever there is any sort of floodlighting put down it’s in wide open spaces with little impact - The LIV event a perfect example - loads of space with lots of desert wasteland and very little footfall

Different ball game at Sawgrass

It’s not practical for an event that’s had one Monday finished in 30/40 years

As it happens I have seen it and you can too with Google maps.
Pylons 😅😅😅 They're lights mate , not 400k power cables. I'm not suggesting it's a great idea , but the lighting would be the easy part.

Like I said. It’s ok for lower tier events and resorts courses.

But, it looks crap, there is no way to hide that fact, it’s also almost impossible to get decent uniformity and with the mobile units there would be an awful lot of generators running to power them. That would sound great!
