Problems with the 4 iron !!!

what's the problem you have with your 4-iron?
Hit it fat / thin?
Slice or wicked hook?

Advantage of a hybrid is they are easier to hit and tend to land softer so you can hold the green
but they are not ideal in windy conditions (the ball balloons) and you get extra distance with a 4-iron due to total distance (carry + roll).

Might be worth investigating what the issue is with your 4-iron before you spend good money on a hybrid.

I was wondered the same, what is the 4 iron problem. I was hitting my 4 iron reasonably well in the winter with a fade, although I did slice a few. I have found that since its been drier, I've been hitting behind the ball on tighter fairways with the longer clubs and tried the ball further back in the stance - it didn't work. I'm obviously not perfectly on plane with the longer clubs (fade/slice) and I saw a video which suggested this could cause the issue and to move the ball forward and it has really helped. Hitting it nice with a slight fade - so probably still not quite on plane.

I'm having the opposite problem, my 4 irons going back in my bag next round I'm really struggling with my hybrids can't hit them at all, but then I never know where to put the ball in my stance with them

Rubbish cos I thought I'd cracked it last time I was at the range

What's your typical miss with the hybrid, I have a 4H which nicely fills the gap between 4I and 5W and I miss it the same way as the 4I (same length) in that I'll hit behind the ball causing a top/fat or shank - HeHe, sounds like I can't hit a barn door!! My hybrid is quite a flexible club in that I can hit down on the ball or sweep it but I prefer to sweep up like the rest of my woods. I find that when I practice with any of my woods on a range mat it is not representative of a fairway, you can hit it slightly fat and it will bouce up from the mat and still get the ball down the range albeit with a less that perfect strike. I prefer to go onto the grass at the side of the range.

I hit all sorts, catch my 20 thin all the time, my 24 I did catch well for a time but now seem to just push it it to the right all the time

I hit them clean at the range, almost perfect every time with the very occasional minor slice, perhaps more work is needed with them :D

Totally off-topic, but, I used to have a cat called Yosser, named after Yosser Hughes, (Bernard Hill), out of Boys from the Blackstuff.
Just thought I'd mention that!

One for the Pro then? I had a lesson yesterday, been really happy with my irons but casting out a bit on pretty much all my woods due to them being longer (over simplified description, but I get the picture). All the drills he is giving me involve getting more inside to achieve a draw which I did get to at the end of the lesson with my irons, just need to carry it through to my woods. I was going around in circles trying to sort it, he spotted straight away a problem at the top of my backswing.

My cat's called Sinbad after the fella from Brookie who was a bit of a case, as is my cat!

Quick update

I decided not to buy a new club , and started gripping down the shaft , cue great shots

So my problem now is do I get this club shortened to say same length as my 5 iron or continue gripping down on it

Just extra info I'm only 5ft 7!

Surely you have answered your own question.... 'cue great shots' .... if you are hitting it well, why mess with it?
Also - if you ever find the ball below your feet, you will need the extra shaft length to set up to the ball properly!

Great to hear you didn't need to shell out an extra £100 for a club replacement - this game is expensive enough!
