Problems joining new club

herb, unfortunately an interview at the counter will not work universally as many pro's are not employed by the club, and in some cases not even by the course, they can be paying for the privilege of running the shop.

as I said, I don't have an issue with playing a round with a member, if it's done the right way, and it could even be a free round.

I may have come across too negative about the course but i do have reservations. At the end of the day i am interested in one thing and that is to play golf. I normally play alone but am more than happy to play with others. The playing with members first is a sticking point for me because having spoken to the ones i know this application is going nowhere till Feb, and then who knows the club may tell me to Foxtrot Oscar. Although i think my ability should be ok on an average days play.

One thing i would like to see for clubs is maybe a notice board in the reception or online on their website where people can post details of tees booked so others can join them. This is a system my work colleagues have where many are members of a club which tees need to be booked a week in advance. They book a tee and then just email everyone saying there is space for two or three players to join them.

We use the notice board in the gents locker room for that sort of thing. All the official info is posted there so a few small postit's on the side of the main board are easily seen by all who need to see them.

I have just joined my first club as full 7 day member and could not have asked for a smoother process. Below is a breif description of how it happened.
1. Contacted the club manager by email to enquire of membership availability.
2. Received reply from club stating membership details and offering a courtesy round to see if i liked the course.
3. The following week i played my courtesy round and was invited to join with 3 other members game. Also had a good chat to some other members including club president. All offered to mark my cards for handicap and offered names/tel number sfor future games.
4. The following week i went in to see the club manager for my "interview" which turned out to be an informal chat followed by a detailed tour of the clubhouse and meet a few more faces(vice captain, president again). When i asked about proposer and seconder all i needed was an introduction letter from my employer and the club manager got the other signature from one of the other members that i had already met. There is always a way round things were his words.
5. Membership form went on the notice board for two weeks and then last Friday i got my subs notice. Called the club manager to arrange payment and had another chat where he ended up saying he cant wait for the new year for me to become a member and start playing regularly (probably says this to every new member).

From start to finish this has taken no more than 7 weeks and if i had wanted it could have been much less.

All in all i couldn't have asked for an easier process with a bunch of such freindly people and i just can't wait to get my h/cap and start beating that little white ball to death.
