This is probably a really daft newbie question, but what's the deal with lining up a Pro V1 on the tee? I picked up some "pearl" ones the other day, and wasn't until I'd hit a few that I realised there's an arrow on them, and the dimple pattern looks slightly different around the line of the arrow. Friend says you line that arrow up with the direction you want to hit it. Is that right?

But what if, say, I want to hit a heavy draw or fade. Do I line the arrow up with the direction I want the ball to end up heading in, or do I stil line it up with my swing.

(Not that it really makes a difference to me at the moment, what with my shots going all over the place! :o )

Oh right, so it's nothing to do with the ball having less side-spin when lined up in a certain way? Like I said, along the arrow there appears to almost be a gap in the dimples. If it's just about an aid to lining up straight on the tee then I won't worry about it so much whenever I tee up! ;)

I find it handy having the line and use it on the tee to line the direction I want to hit the ball because if the line on the ball is aiming where you want to go and the club face is square to the line at address then in theory it should go where you want it to.

It's mainly for lining up putts as most putters have a mark at the top in the middle so you can line this up with the line on the side of the ball.

I usually line the Titleist up when driving.

This maybe something I heard whilst dreaming (or too many beers) one night but, there was an old wives tale that said if you had the pro v writing and arrows lined up vertically on the peg then it would fly that bit extra off the clubface.

I never noticed a scrap of difference anyway so I add to the pro v line with a black line em up and have that lined up square with the clubface at address sort of in a one strand comb-over fashion!! :D

This is why I asked, because I heard that too. And my Pro V1s definitely have a thin band with no dimples around where the arrow points.

However, I lost a Pro V1 on Saturday, but found a Pro V1x, (playing partner found one as well, a few yards away...I think someone hit two into the woods!), and the V1x doesn't have the band around it like the V1 does. :D
