I suppose that depends if you can keep 4 children happy and entertained for the flight; if you can't it becomes a problem for you and more importantly the other passengers in business class who are having their expensive flight ruined by a pack of trunky kids. I've only been fortunate enough to do it once & would be well pissed off to have had it spoilt after what it had cost me.
 
I quite like Poulter and have no problem with him putting it on Twitter as i think a lot of the negative comments come from jealousy of what he has achieved and what he has.

From reading the comments it seems that BA will only refund £200 despite the difference in cost of the different seats on their flights. To bring it back into the realms that most of us mere mortals can understand how would you feel if you did your online shopping and when it turned up they said "I know you ordered a Warburtons loaf but we had too many orders for that so we've given you Tesco/Asda Value/Smart Price bread and I know it's £1 cheaper for that but we're only going to give you 10p back for it"?
 
It's pretty clever what he's done. By having a whinge on twitter to his thousands of followers he's ensured that it'll never happen to him again!

for what it's worth, BA flights from Orlando tend not to have first class and business is usually families with kids and older couples.
 
I've flown business class, it's awesome, you get real knives and forks and proper crockery!!

I often wonder why people follow famous people on Facebook and Twitter if all they do is bitch at them seems like a strange pastime to me

Agree with both these!

I suspect there'll be more 'compensation' from BA though - a PR 'disaster' imo.
 
Don't see the issue to be honest. If I had paid for business class and had one of the tickets downgraded I'd be pretty peeved off too. That said I wouldn't moan about my wife having to look after her own children, but can imagine that 4 young kids on a plane would be a nightmare to handle.

I think people are too precious these days. Objectively his troubles aren't as 'bad' as a lot of other peoples', but subjectively his nanny being unable to do her job is just as bad to his personal situation as someone else who's car breaking down and being unable to afford to fix it might be to them. It's all about personal experience.

I don't really see how he could take the Nanny's downgraded seat since there are only 6 tickets; 1 wife, 1 nanny and 4 children? He doesn't have a ticket by my maths...

he is not flying with them, hence why having two people to look after 4 kids would be pretty useful! I have 4 kids and i would not want to fly with them all on my own! No way!
 
Complaining about the downgrade on Twitter, excellent idea.
Complaining about his wife having to look after their own children alone while they fly business class, very bad idea. that is the bit he should have missed out. Complaining that his nanny had been downgraded when he paid for her to fly business would have him looking like a great and considerate boss.
A PR disaster for Poulter and BA in my view.

Really? I just don't get it. Makes yourself look like a whiny brat leveraging your social status IMO.

It generally makes the company you are complaining about see sense, plus warns others of bad service.
 
For me, the only mistake I think Ian made was he "and now my wife has no help with 4 kids for 10hours" bit. Don't think it come across to us normal earning folk as well as it intended :D

While I can see his frustration, I'm sure his eldest, Luke, could have gone into Eco class . Old enough to look after himself and he isn't going to run off on a trans Atlantic flight
