possible swing change looking at S&T

Having read this intersting thread.

To me if stack and tilt was any good there would be more than a handful of players using it though that does not make it wrong it does IMO make it a very speacilised technique and one that is not wide spread in use.

To me as amateurs we learn from watching one and other and imrove by copying the techniques other use, to use the stack and tilt method means you are going to have to learn all about it from youtube or if you can fnd a pro that teaches it.

For me give me the traditional more powerful and well used swing over S&T.

Hope thats makes sense.

It does, but you are probably young, fit, co-ordinated, talented, and good at the game. I am none of these. I can't swing like Rory, or Tiger, or Ernie, etc.

The point i am trying to make is that the way we improve is by watching people and picking up the techniques others use and the "conventional" swing is more widespread in use than stack and tilt, but if it is stack and tilt that works for you fine but i think it would be a far more difficult swing to improve on.

James has given me the fundamentals of the S&T swing. I haven't had the guts to fully implement it yet as I wanted to try and keep what semblance of normality I had for the main part of the season. However I've cherry picked a few bits from it and for a time have seen some interesting improvements although not anything long term (probably more down to fear of losing any sort of cohesion). I will have a closer look over the window as I can see how for a lot of people it could help. Hell, if it can singifcantly reduce my lateral movement on my downswing then its good enough for me.

I do have some issues with it. I developed a dose of the shanks after a while which was more to do with moving the weight around too much (I think) and I had problems skying some woods. It's like a lot of things in life though, you'll never know until you've tried

I cant see why people have so much of an issue with it to be honest. If I dont like it, I will not stick at it, but I like the idea of looking at all the opts available!

Not sure if this link works but its a side on view of my current swing, very short, may have to watch it a time or 2, maybe let me know if you can see it! lol

Lots going on there but for me it starts from the ground up. I'd flare out your feet a little to get a more stable stance, this will help you put the power on and allow those hips to rotate and turn through the shot properly, they look very quiet/restricted right and that can lead to the arms taking over and all sorts of problems.

I reckon stack and tilt would suit your swing, it looks like it could be pretty powerful. Even if you just read the book I reckon you'd take some of it into your game.

regards.

Thanks for the comments folks, I think that long term I am going to work on keeping myself over the ball more, ala Sean Foley, I have been reading up on him and his training styles, and the pro at my club knows about his teaching, so we are going to have a look at that. I realise that Foley has taken some of ideas from s&t, but think it is a lesser version it, hope lesser is the right term. I like some of the ideas I have seen, so I have the winter to look more closely at things, at 32 I hopefully have some time to still develop a better game, and I have only been playing 6 years, 3 competatively, so maybe there is hope for me yet! :)
Cheers
