I don't mind the cold as long as my hands aren't numb. Hate the rain.

I love twilight golf so I miss that too but as non of the above is on the list I've gone with soggy/muddy lies as it affects my game more than it really ought to.

I've never seen a temporary green so wouldn't know one if I fell over (in?) one. :)

Voted for soggy lies, but my biggest dislike is low winter sun...always seem to finish with a splitting headache.

I may have to invest in a pair of sunglasses. For winter golf in the West of Scotland...nuts.

Re: Poll 2: Least enjoyable thing about winter gol

Why do people get upset about winter greens? I just don't understand why they don't just pick up and walk onto the next tee! Winter golf is about exercise and getting a hit. Don't fret about a bumby frosty green just keep moving and warm.

I am with you on this - just keep pushing on. In some ways it speeds up the round as I am not too fussed as long as its close. We are more generous on our gimmes in Winter even if we are playing for beers. If its on a temp green there is no point beating yourself up if it bobbles and misses.

Re: Poll 2: Least enjoyable thing about winter gol

Absolutely loathe winter golf. If it's temp greens I won't play. Simples.
Hate mats. Hate the bleakness of golf courses once all the leaves have gone. I'll try to play a links course during the winter if I can, lack of trees doesn't matter. They usually don't have any anyway.
Worm casts. Muddy lies and slosh to try to chip off.
Playing in the cold and rain????? I'd rather watch telly.

Shame, I was going to invite you for a game at Sunningdale this weekend... (not that I'm a member at Sunningdale by the way before any forumers get the wrong idea!)

Hate the cold. I'm a wuss and always the first to feel it as I don't have any 'insulation'.

Proper tees and greens for us all year round otherwise they would have been number 1.

Re: Poll 2: Least enjoyable thing about winter gol

Hitting fat wedge shots off soft ground. My own fault for lack of ball striking precision, but I like to blame the conditions.

Re: Poll 2: Least enjoyable thing about winter gol

also when it's sunny, the sun is so low in the sky that even when you hit a good shot you can still lose the ball either by being blinded by the sun or the way the shadows are so long and "hide" the ball. which with the terrain is usually covered in mud.

Re: Poll 2: Least enjoyable thing about winter gol

i chose Temp greens but my first choice was not there - fairway mats :(

Was discussing this with a Scottish secretary the other day and trying to explain that this was really a 'north of the border' phenomenon - don't really know of any clubs down south that use fairway mats, though doubtless I stand to be corrected!
