• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Please tell me I'm not the first

Been as I scored on all holes and therefore wrote both shots and points down it handed occurred to me.

But it I sincerely thank you for your input.

btw, all three in the group did the same. One had four blobs so not score and other had point some on all holes so submitted card fine.

Great minds.

Dave I have done the same. Missed a short putt on 18 for a double, when it didn't drop I had a brain wave and scooped ball up with putter as I had blobbed. That's just a N/R and just enter a zero against that hole into the computer. I haven't done the same again

Surely filling out a card for medal and stableford are the same.

Put your number of shots down or NR if you picked up on that hole, sign at the end, enter into PC and submit.

Only difference is in a medal if you pick up on a hole you NR a final score too, which has no impact until after the round is over. Its for the purpose of competition placing, irrelevant to the actions you take while out on the course.

I really think there needs to be more advice given on how to fill in competition cards.

I played in my first comp yesterday since 2016.
I played in a qualifying 9 hole Stableford and was advised in the Pro shop to just put gross scores as the computer adjusts the card.
Worked fine.
As a bonus scored 43 gross for 39 points, hopefully a cut in the offing.

a DQ would mean you would still get cut, you just can't win a price or be placed in the comp.

Where you playing gimmes or something?

if it was stableford, its marked as a no score on the card and on a computer, if SP then its an NR.

When I look at the medal comp results from my club there are always at least two or three people at the bottom with N/R where you can see they blobbed certain holes and didn't put the scores in, thinking it was Stableford. Not taking the mick but I don't know how you wouldn't know - firstly I look at the comp calendar before entering where it says Stableford or medal, and secondly you write the name of the competition at the top of the card which will often be 'monthly medal' for example. Not always though, sometimes it'll just be 'the something cup' or whatever, granted.

Not wanting to make it worse - but did you work out where you would have actually finished in the medal if you'd have submitted your card correctly? :D

In the words of Donald Trump, you are a very bad man :D

If you don't sign the card and are DQd, why do you still get a reduction?

I understand why if NR, but if the card isn't signed, how does anyone know the score is legitimate?

On the otherhand, I guess the system guards against bandits rather than people having a handicap that is too low.

Ive done it, posted the card in the box without signing it myself, the person marking my card signed it though. would have won by a few strokes but was still cut.

Eh, 39 points for a 9 hole stableford????

how many shots were you getting?

expect their system adds 18 points to a 9 hole score to convert to an 18 hole score (which is what is then used for hcap adj)

Surprise to me also.
First comp in 3 months and first 9 holer.
I got 11 shots off 23 playing hc.
Computer does adjustment, I only entered gross score on on card.
Cut to 22 exact, chuffed after a torrid couple of years.

I agree with all that's been said about still getting a cut.

But if you had realised your mistake (or been told) before you left the 18th green, then you could have replaced the ball under penalty of one stroke, and then finished the hole. (Rule 18/2 - ball at rest moved). And possibly still been in with a chance of a prize. But as you'd left the 18th green, then yes, afraid it's a dq for failing to hole out (rule 3/2)

As was only my second comp I'm only eligible for 2's money. Which I missed by an inch incidentally.

Have to play 3 comps before prizes available. I guess to make sure no banditry.

My my iPad is a delight and Had an icon telling me results are available yesterday.

If id holed out would have been 2-4th depending on countback. 5th if I'd done so under one stroke penalty.

Argh!

Fish you've had a little h4h reprieve!
