I'd recommend The Inn on the Green at Crooklets Beach in Bude. Its situated behind the 4th hole of Bude & North Cornwall and is a marvellous hotel with a fantastic restaurant. They do good deals on green fees at neighbouring courses in a 30 mile radius.

I went down with three mates a few years back. We left just after the rush hour and got down to Bude around lunchtime. Checked in and then drove up to Bude's clubhouse (two minute drive - you can walk it in 10) for lunch. Played 18 in the afternoon and had a great meal and went into Bude for a few beers and a nose round.

Dependant on what you fancy you can either get them to arrange a game somewhere else for you or you and the other half could perhaps explore the Cornish coast and find a good pub for some lunch. Maybe have another game at Bude on the final morning before you set off

As an alternative, why not try Ashbury Manor near Okehampton. They have two sites, Maddeford which is pure golf with two 18 hole courses and 3 loops of 9 which has your green fees included. The other site, Ashbury Manor has the beauty treatments, hobby's and other sporting events to have a try at like archery etc.

My advice would be to book a room at the Maddeford as the Ashbury does get full of kids and families and so mealtimes can be a bit chaotic. Maddeford tends to cater just for golfing parties so is more aldult orientated. I think breakfast lunch and an evening meal are included (wine I think is something silly like £5 a bottle on top)

I recently went on a 3 day golf break, 12 of us in total (3 4 balls). I went to Belton Woods which is a De Veres complex with two golf courses attached and awesome lesure facilities. It was one of the best weekends i have ever had!

I cant recommend this place enough. Its a 5* hotel but they do excellent deals. we stayed and played 3 rounds for £225 each (that included breakfast, evening meal and full use of the gym, etc).

We are planning on making it a yearly event.

Hi Glenfish
What a lovely thought.
It depends on how far South you want to go.
My husband and I went to stay at the Ashbury hotel, Okehampton in Devon last year on a recommendation from a friend and it was a 1st class weekend :D. It had everything, afew golf courses (18 & 9 holes),range, gym, spa, tennis, pool, the food was to die for and the rooms were really good too.
You can also take part in some activities at their sister hotel, the Manor house.
We stayed 4 nights and are going to go back later this year. :)
1st class long weekend.
Hope you find what you're looking for and have a wonderful time.

If you decide on Belton Woods as your destination, let me know as I live only half an hour down the road and can put on to a few good spots for food etc.

whilst not as popular as Belton Woods, have a look at Greetham Valley in Rutland. Hotel and Spa on sight, 2 great pubs with top food in the nearby village (I live there) plus some other top restaurants including the Michelin Star awarded Olive Branch (food about £35 per head)5 minutes away

cheap 1 hr flight Heathrow to Inverness either early morning or the evening before and hire a car.
Day 1 Play Nairn west (close to airport) and Fortrose&Rosemarkie. Stay in a b+b in Dornoch or Tain.
Day 2 play Dornoch championship and Brora. Drive south and stay in Aviemore.
Day 3 play Boat of Garten and the new Spey Valley course at Aviemore. Great change from the seaside golf of days 1 and 2 -these two courses are both in the shadow of the Cairngorms, very very scenic.
<1 hr back to airport from Aviemore and evening flight home.

The quiet roads and open space will be a revelation for you folks from down south.

Will cost you a 'bonny penny' but you southerners are minted, we all know that!
Sorted!

If I read it right you are looking to have a sort of 50/50 weekend away, where HID feels that she has had a fair go as well? That being the case I would not reccommend Homers choice in Bude. I am actually staying at "The Inn on the Green" in a couple of weeks time and have been going there for the last 4 years. During that time they have upgraded the rooms Bar and Restaurant but not to what I think you are looking for (rooms particularly). Cant fault the welcome, the people or the courses locally but for a non golfeer perhaps not the right tone.

His other choice is excellent, however perhaps you could try the "Two Bridges" on Dartmoor, the room are excellent (especially the themed rooms) we stay in "Mrs Trinnamin" ar "Vivien Leigh" the food is excellent and they do occasion weekends where you are greeted with Shampoo/Flowers etc. They can book Golf locally as well so you both get something.

Of the others,Barb leads the way for me,Ashbury is lovely and has all the "bits" a non golfer would want.
