Playoffs - daft gimmick

I don't like the idea of the end of season playoffs. Would it not be better to have playoffs between the top clubs in one division & the bottom clubs in the lower division?
Not imo, the clubs being relegated don’t deserve a 2nd chance, they’ve had all season to prove they’re good enough to stay in that league.

The play offs are great. They add to the fun of the season

I’ve been to 2 play off finals one we got robbed and one we prob didn’t deserve to win but cracking days out

Don't like them, never have, never will.
Take League 1...
Shrewsbury finished 16 points above Charlton.
Why should Charlton go up instead of Shrewsbury on the back of 3 games when, over 46 games, Shrewsbury have won 5 more..?
The Championship is similar - 13 points between Fulham and Derby. At least in League 2 there's only 5 points between the playoff teams but it still makes a mockery of coming 3rd or 4th over the Season..

Everyone knows the rules and has the season to try and win it or finish 2nd

The play offs are great for fans and the clubs alike.

West Ham vs Ipswich play off semi final was one of the best atmospheres I’d been to at Upton Park until we beat spurs in sherwoods last season “we want you to stay”

Play offs mean it isn’t monopolised by the best teams aswell. Would be great to see 3-6 in the premier league given play offs to go in the champions league lol

I'm with Imurg on this. The playoffs are just an unnecessary attempt to add excitement/generate cash and as he states promote teams that don't deserve it.
It's even worse in Scotland, where 4th plays 3rd (2 legs), the winner then plays 2nd (2 legs) and then the winner plays the second bottom team from the league above just to give them a chance to stay up.
The system is absolutely broken in Scotland.

Isn’t football entirely broke in Scotland ?

Nope....the exact opposite.
The introduction of the Championship with the new SPFL coinciding with the relegation of Rangers/Hearts/Hibs/Dundee Utd has spread wealth and made a much more competitive league [ex Celtic of course]
New improved grounds at Tynecastle and Easter Road resulting in 18/20,000 home games and a new stadium being built at Aberdeen.

Crowds at record levels, don't let facts get in the way of your lazy thinking.

Plays off for me work well - they allow a lot of clubs to keep going right to the end of the season and the excitement levels increase as the season comes to an end instead of dissolving out - they tried the top against bottom before and it didn’t work - current method works very well

Purposely didn’t mention the play off for promotion as never being involved in it I can only see it as a nuetral, as a nuetral it’s exciting, but as you say, you can watch your team work hard all season to finish 3rd and miss out, and I can see the wrong in that.

Can see positives and negatives for both sides. Perhaps we should return to only promotion and relegation of the top and bottom teams, then there would be no need for the extra games and excitment the clubs and fans want. Why should coming second be a golden ticket?

Makes a mockery of the whole league basis. The league is about consistency and being rewarded. You finish 6th and can still get promoted, finish 3rd and you may not go up - farce

The concept of the playoffs is to make games more meaningful and exciting.
At one stage the EPL had eight or nine teams fighting relegation, all of those matches would excite the fans.

Boring middle league games half way through a season is a turn off for the fans and a financial albatross.

The form team is also the one most likely to win a play off over the team that had a big lead early season but let it slip away.
