Playing wrong ball

Player A cant find his ball. His remaining 4 ball finish the hole. Walked to the next tee box and proceeded to tee off.

Before they all finished playing the hole player b from a group in front came running back advising player A that he played his ball by mistake.

Player A then went back to the previous hole to completely it.

Is he allowed to go back after his group have already started the next hole?

Yes. Providing the player himself hasn't started the next hole, he may go back and correct the situation. 6.3c
