Playing to your handicap..how often?

Would love to play to my handicap again. Bit of a pipe dream.

When I join a club again I guess my handicap will be reassessed as I've not had one since 2013...

I can still play to my handicap in match play on enough holes to make a game if it.

Maybe if my three card rounds of a new handicap are a bit rubbish... 😂

It will be the thought of hitting that lovely old 1 iron mate😉

You're right there pal, although I still do my best in competitions, my handicap doesn't have the same degree of importance to me as it used to do.
I've finally realised that the enjoyment I get from the game is far more relevant to me than what my handicap is and so I don't care what damage I do to my consistency or ability to score well by playing a different set of clubs each time I go out for a round.

Play vintage, it's the way forward!

Got a feeling I've hit 1 buffer in the last 8/9 comps.....missed it by 1 at least 3 or 4 times....
Not sure I've played to it once this year apart from a solo round - maybe a couple of buffers but I've not matched it yet.

Here's a tale of misery to offset the number of players who play quite regularly to handicap.

2015, started with 8 handicap, 16 qualifiers, no cuts, 1 buffer, 15 x 0.1s, ended with handicap of 10
2016, started with handicap of 10, 17 qualifiers, one cut of 0.4, three buffers, 13 x 0.1s, ended with handicap of 11
2017, started with handicap of 10, 6 qualifiers to date, no cuts, no buffers, 6 x 0.1s

In summary; 39 qualifiers, one cut, four buffers and 34 x 0.1s

I'm now sitting on 11.4, one more dismal round and I'll be playing off 12, that will be four shots back in less than three years, it's a wonder I still have any motivation left to go out and play.
How on earth did you get 8 handicap in the first place? Did you just have one blinding round on one of the cards you handed in and have never matched it since??

Hard to believe I know but there was a time when I could put scores together.
In 2102 I went from 12 to 11
In 2013 I went from 11 to 9 and in the process won the Captain's Putter which is awarded to the player with the best score from top ten placings in all qualifiers for the year.
In 2014 I went from 9 to 8

Since then I have had numerous swing/play faults, the worst of which have been 2 years of shanks, now mostly behind me, and 2 years of a dire chipping game, regrettably still with me, I think I might have the chipping yips.
Couple that with my dreadful course management and there you are!
