Playing outside the tee ruling.

I've had this happen to me before. I teed up on the yellows instead of the whites in a comp (the yellows were literally right next to the whites). Can't one of your fellow competitors tell you or make you aware of what you are doing before you hit your shot?

If a FC spots your error he is supposed to tell you before you play.

i often used to get "coughed at" for inadvertently placing my tee maybe an inch or so ahead of the tee line so I've become very attentive to that.
The reason I discovered what my FC's had done was that I went to check I wasn't ahead of the markers and only then saw we were actually outside the markers.
If I'd noticed my two FC's error I'd have alerted them but none of us noticed.
I'm sure you can imagine the conversation in the clubhouse:
"He only stood there and let us tee off and then said "Well, look what you two just did!""
They're two good mates so I had to take some stick

I'd second that.....but they are no different to any other experienced player, you hear some utter rubbish from low handicappers who players new to the game think are somehow gurus on the rules. TBH I'm a bit surprised this pretty basic rule has a) caused confusion in the first place and b) been got wrong by the pro. As always, the only surefire way to rule on anything is to look it up!
Im the "newbie" of the three of us in my OP. My two mates are experienced players and were unsure what to do. It was me that said they had to play again under penalty. But when a Pro rules the newbie shuts up :o

I've listened to a few disputes and asking of "experts" after many a match.
I always sit quietly and think "I know where I'll get a definitive answer".
That's here.
Thanks all
