Playing in the same 4ball

I would rather 4-balls and 4-somes are drawn.

It's a suggestion I have made at mine as it is always pick your own partners.

Bit of both mate , like playing with people i know but i think playing with & against strangers improves your game , IMO playing with the same 4ball week in week out is not good for your game , you get complacent i think

Play with the same 3 guys during the week as we're on the same shift pattern but as there's 16 of us the balls go in the hat, could be a total mix of handicaps as the range is 2 - 20 and a lot of cat 1's in there.

That's what I was kinda thinking, ayed yesterday with three different guys in a society and played really solid :(

Our comps are all played in your own groups and I am not sure that it is a good thing. It can make it hard to find a game at the weekend if your usual group is not available. I also feel that it would help to to integrate new members into the club and create a better atmosphere and club spirit if there was more active encouragement for people to mix. I can understand why alot of members prefer it as it is. We have a large proportion of long term members who already know each other so have no issues with integration or finding a round. The newer members or smaller groups can have issues in this regard and at present we are losing members so change may be necessary.

Thats the exact point I made when I suggested it at mine.

I wait to see if anything changes.

All our comps are drawn so that everyone gets a chance to play with everyone else and it creates a really good club feel. This might not work for every club but it works for us as we are a smallish club and our comp entries go from 30 to the high 50s.

There is a drawback to having the same group of 4 playing together every week - the possibilities are there for turning a blind eye to rules infringements or continuing ignorance or mis-interpretation of rules. We all know that this goes on in 4-man Am-Ams and Texas Scrambles and it wouldn't happen if you were drawn with a different 3 players every week.

I enjoy playing with the same people in friendly games, but our competitions are drawn and I like it that way.

A lot of the time the same people get put together and I'm fine with that as long as there's no suspicion of anything untoward, but there's no problem for a new member entering on their own as they don't have to find people to play with.

hmmm its a a good idea for experience and not sure if allowed it comp but for people to pass on tips etc... but my biggest thing is i would be worried of makin a tit of my self infront of total strangers or good players... with my mates or old man its fine i laugh it off or they laugh at me when i get all teasy about summit... but with a group of players i didnt know i know id put alot of pressure on my self to hit a good shot every time... and only way id settle is if one of them shanked one

It's the only way forward. Playing in competition, with other players, and better players, can only help you be a better player. Don't be concerned about making a fool of yourself - we can all do that whatever our handicap. Bite the bullet and see your game progressing.

yeah well going to have to now as used to play at a different club and in comps only with my mates.. now ive changed so as we prob cant go out in a pair think its time to start mingling when the comps come up.
Dont mind people giving friendly advice just dont want my whle game ripped apart by sniggering haha

Play in the same three ball for most medals and stablefords, although sometimes only two of us can play so we join with another member who can't find anyone else.:) Friendly golf at the club is mainly roll ups so play with a variety of people, but most I know well. Major comps are drawn so play with different people.

My golf is more social than competitive, so would rather play with people I like, than get stuck with a complete knob for 4 hours. Probably why I like playing with forumers on a regular basis.

Our comps are drawn which suits me. I think its better not to play with the same guys all the time. That said we have the same 8-15 guys in our swindle and always fun to play with them too. Balls in a hat and drawn for partners but whoever you get drawn with its fun.

Never a fan of mates always playing together in comps as I'm pretty sure there must be times when infringements are ignored for convenience sake. Not so likely to happen with strangers
