Went out for 9 holes early this morning.and the course was empty apart from a older bloke tee'd off just before me.

He was playing two balls on every hole. Normaly I wouldn't have a problem but this guy wasn't
Letting me play through.

Really annoyed me and to be honest ruined my round.

Bang out of order this, If im out by myself, I will often play 2 balls
BUT if someone is catching me up, I will either cut back to 1 ball or let them through.

No excuse for this, id have been on the phone to the club house, after a few holes
Its total ignorance, but it seems quite common unfortunately

firstly do you not have a two ball rule at your club, secondly why didn't you just skip a hole and get in front and why didn't you use the time to hit a few practice shots(if allowed) and why did you not ask if he fancied making up a 2 ball?

Hi there, I would normally of asked to go around together if I seen another alone golfer,
But I was just wanting a quick round before I headed into work.

I wasn't going to skip a hole as I paid full price for my round. Unlike the said bloke was a OAP and gets on for
Half price in the mornings,

Didn't really want to be practising I wanted to try and fit all 9 holes in. As I was a bit pushed for time

this is another case of just asking to get through. he wont have a problem as he doesnt have a leg to stand on due to playing two balls. i regulary play up to 4 balls myself but NEVER hold anyone back. i sat at the 8th green today and let the two guys behind through so i could practice some bunker shots. they thanked me and went on their merry way.

I dont know how anyone can disagree with this mate. A bloke could be playing 20 balls but aslong as he said straight away do you want to play through mate. Who honestly loses out there?

I dont understand why some people get enjoyment out of being a c@ck. why would it hurt either going to one ball or let the man through.

oh and they were old guys too. old guys are ok in my book ;) the get a back rap round here!
Well I'm not going to apologise for feeling the way I do.I've done nothing wrong.the bloke playing 2 balls knew I was behind him and was wanting through.Yet he still didn't wave me through. As for asking to play through I shouldn't have to ask him.He was the one causing the hold up so he should have invited me to play through.

Thank you I'm glad someone also see's my point

You are right in saying you shouldn't have to ask but sometimes being direct is the only way. I'm sure if you'd made your point firmly but politely and pointed out you only had a limited period of time he'd have let you through.

I love the old gits at our club they make me laugh, a lot!
I even let them off with most of their mistermeaners except they make a bad habit of not repairing pitch marks, which, on it's own, wouldn't bother me except they then come into the clubhouse maoning about people not repairing them.
I know it's them as I've been next out after them once the greenkeepers have done the greens and they are the only ones to have played on them before me.
I love listening to their golf stories they are taller than than old fisherman stories.

Yup you shouldn't have to ask to be let through but on Sunday we got held up behind a fourball of golfers younger than ourselves ;) We were a three ball.
We putted out on the 11th as they finished teeing off on 12 and as one of them had knobbed it onto the Ladies tee, HID says " No problems us playing through eh ? " at which she turned round to us and waved us on.:D
And they used say she's not assertive enough at work :D:D

Out of interest what does everyone here see as "older golfers" as I'm 50 and have been playing for about 6 years and don't generalise on any age group causing problems (slow play, not repairing pitch marks etc) but it does appear to me to be the "vets" of 60+ that tend to hold me up mainly due to them not being aware that the rules have changes to allow individual golfers the same rights as a group.

This happened to me last Saturday. The course was pretty busy considering how early it was and the chap who tee'd off infront decided to play 2 balls.

By about the 3rd hole he had lost a clear hole to the 2 ball he was following. By the 6th it was 2 clear holes.

I had no one behind me so I was in no particular rush, nor did I have the pressure of someone waiting behind me.

By the 8th I got sick of waiting pretty much on every tee so as soon as he was out of range on the hole played my tee shot and walked to my ball pretty briskly. He turned to see where I was, low and behold I was stood by my ball leaning on my iron waiting to play.

He let me through after he holed out.

Totally agree with Fragger on this when he says

Just typifies the lack of etiquette that current club members have to endure from a few selfish ignorant fools.

I often play on my own and enjoy the opportunity to play two balls and practice different shots etc. I also qualify as an old git as I will be 65 this year, although I am not retired so can only play subject to work commitments. However there is no excuse for not letting through a faster game behind, I regularly do and get a thank you while I practice a few chips as I wait for the game to get ahead.

Not knowing that a single player now ranks as a group for etiquette purposes is no excuse, it's just a matter of manners and consideration for others.
