I scored an unofficial 71 on my local par 69 track. I say unofficial because my tee shot on the 10th which appeared to be safe in the semi rough could not be found. Instead of going back to the tee it was agreed to drop a ball rather than to go back all the way to the tee.
Still it was the overall play that I was very pleased with but wanted to point out 2 of the main reasons for the low score.
Undoubtedly the most telling improvement is keeping my left arm straight. At address it was always fine but at top of my backswing the left arm would kink a bit. Now I resist the bending of the arm and hey presto better ball striking.
The 2nd improvement that was used to good effect yesterday was a change in chipping/pitching mentality. I used 8I bump and run style shots instead of trying to float it up to the whole with a GW or Lob wedge. I listened to Gary player talk about "hit it high and you die" meaning it is far better to keep the ball low unless you absoulutely need loft. I'm finding that low chips get closer to the hole and therefore more chance of making birdie or saving par.
Well chuffed.
