Have you increased the number of times you have played recently as this is usually and overuse injury, I know from my triathlon and marathon days!

have a look at one of these

http://www.physioroom.com/product/Strassburg_Sock/2030/38229.html?gclid=CMyjhvijtMACFdLKtAodEiAAwA

designed to sleep in so you shouldnt have issues in the morning as the fibres in the plantar are stretched, other option is to roll a golf ball under the affected arch

Yup that's another the Doc told wor lass to try, also a plastic water bottle part filled and frozen rolled back and forth under the foot.

Haven't suffered from the problem itself but would simply like to add that once 'new shoe blister syndrome' wore off, the Ecco Biom's are incredibly comfortable, supportive and lightweight.

You can get a steroid injection into your heel but seemingly it is one of the most painful things going.

I had this injection to "cure" PF 20 years ago and it didn't work. It was indescribably painful. I wouldn't do it again. If you suffer from any foot pain, minimalist golf shoes of any brand are not a good idea. I tried inserts, but they moved about inside the shoe, and raised the height of my foot affecting my balance. My golf definitely got worse. I wear FJ Contour Casuals now without inserts. They are great.

I get it bad if I'm not careful, I wear Ecco but still get it.

What works for me is to touch my toes in the evening to stretch my calf muscles (took a while bofore I could do it but it's wiorth persevering) and also before I get up I bend my toes/feet up as far as I can.

Still do the tramp shuffle some mornings but nothing like as bad as it was.

I thought it was the posh name for Flat Feet. If your wife's a physio, she should be able to help with tailored insoles to help alleviate the problem. Think the posh name for this is orthotics.

I picked it up when I was in the Navy 11 years ago and it bothers me most days. I wear Adizero and I can happily state that my feet are rarely more sore after a round than after a walk up the town in my nike Air Max'. Not sure how you can accredit a ligament tear to the footwear though?

Mine was definitely due to the increased level of running and over pulling the Plantar fascia. I'm not one for injections and the Steroid injection is renowned for being painful without 100% success rate so I just live with it. Just have to be careful when moving after long periods of rest as it may need stretching prior to walking.

I'm getting this more and more often now aswell, I'm not sure what the blame is, I get it worse after the golf but I'm not sure if it's actually the shoes causing the problem. I wear steel toe caps boots for 8/10 hours a day and they are the cheapest crap things my work will buy, but I don't seem to get it after work, just after I play golf.

It's usually sparked by increased walking/running. If you've recently upped the amount of miles that you walk/run then this'll be the cause. It's not really the footwear. It's more of a pulled muscle so generally can't be accredited to the footwear. As people have suggested a good calf stretch after periods of rest can definitely help.

Had a look at shoes in the local AG today.
The Callaways look nice :
The Callaway Golf X Nitro Shoes are fitted with Ortholite Dual Density Inserts with 3D cushioning support combine the inherent benefits of strength, breathability, moisture transport and anti-microbial function

Might have to try a pair on next time I'm in there.

Tennis ball under your foot while watching tv or sat at the computer and roll it around.

Worked wonders for my old man after suffering from it for awhile this fixed it within a week or so.

all these comments on wearing in modern shoes is slightly worrying - they really should fit perfectly from the first moment and they certainly shouldn't permit your foot to move around in the shoe - especially permitting the heel to rise in the shoe in the context of this thread.

reminds me of some of the comments that have been made here by those getting custom fitted properly for shoes as part of winning events; many were amazed at the actual sizes they were put in at the time. part of this is because it's not as easy to get/try a range of sizes and widths in the UK (compared to US) but a lot of people clearly aren't in shoes that are the right size or 'cut' for them.

Not really, iv actually cut down I reckon, I used to run around 12 miles a week, don't do that anymore. I probably cover 20 miles a week down the course though plus however many miles I do at work all day. I had it bad before in the arch of my foot and had to run my foot over an irn bru bottle every morning I got up which did cure the arch pain.

Whilst I am not a medical person, as someone who suffered it for a long time, I'll tell you what I was told by the specialists. PF is essentially a similar condition to tennis elbow, but in the foot. It isn't necessarily caused by minimalist footwear per se, but if you get the condition then the lack of cushioning in such shoes will make you feel the pain with every step. Whilst many here have been cured by simple remedies, it is not always the case that these work. By all means try them and if they work great. Nothing the doctors did or told me to do directly in relation to the condition made any difference, including the dreaded steroid injection directly into the heel. I was told PF is often wrongly diagnosed, and is often mistaken for similar foot conditions. In my own case, an operation (unrelated to the PF) which improved the blood flow to my feet seems to have cured it as a welcome by-product!

I've nearly got over my PF condition, 10 months of suffering btw. My doctor told me it's common with sprinters( I used to sprint with Edinburgh Athletic Club 40 odd years ago) . he gave me some exercises to do, the best one being, standing on the ball of my feet on some stairs and point my heels to the ground for a couple of minutes, both last thing at night and first thing in the morning. This helped greatly and I now have no pain, and use Adzeros with no more grief. In short, it's not the shoe.

A lot of lads at work got PF and it was due to several issues.

1, the boots were diabolical and were falling to bits on the mens feet. Stitching coming undone, steel plate coming out of the bottom of the boot. No support to the arch of the foot.

2, the men were walking miles and using the sleepers like you would use the rungs on a ladder. Image walking miles up a ladder and the hammer your arches would get.

changing the footwear and some men using arch supports helped massively.

re adizeros and PF. In my experience and I have a pair. They are gorgeous but after 18 holes I can hardly walk. My feet cause me agony but the ironic thing is I have a pair of adidas dimple shoes which are like carpet slippers.

can adizeros cause PF. I have not got a clue. but I do know I have never known a golf shoe cause so much of a negative stir. Sill love look of mine though.

Thank you everyone who has posted.
I have had this pain on and off, mainly after playing golf, and I have Adidas shoes but not sure which ones but very comfy. I then played 36 holes followed by 18 holes the next day and the pain as already described above seemed this time to hang around. I know that my smart work shoes need replacing, also I drive many miles and my pain is in the right heel, so those could be contributing factors.
We have an array of wooden foot rollers in the house and a couple had the dust blown off them today, and already I can feel the difference.
