Is it possible to plan your round of golf before you play?

I'm a 28 handicapper and dont know exactly where my ball is going to end up at the best of times. A couple of weeks ago I bought a yardage booklet for the course I am playing in a competition at shortly.

Should I mark on there where I would realistically like to be on each hole after two shots to stop me trying too hard to reach the greens in regulation as I think this may help or is there another way of pre-planning a round???

The best way for you to plan would be to pick out the holes where you normally struggle and play them to your handicap. ie, play the toughest par 4's as par 5's, the long par 3's as par 4's etc etc

I sometimes plan my round by noting which holes I would use my 3 wood or even 5 or 6 iron off the tee. There will be 4 or 5 holes on every course where you will not need the driver. Another thing I do is look at my prefered side of the green.
