Or you could try The Dogs a restaurant my daughter took me and the misses too, mm I thought funny name for a restaurant maybe a play on words as in the dogs bxxxxxx

Drab inside , the food was ok but I orderded pork belly and what I got was half a plate of pork and half a plat of green beans ,fine dining it was not.

I ate in Amarone not 2 weeks ago and although a very nice setting I was very disappointed with the quality. The food was OK but for that type of place it should be better than OK, a colleague at work suggested he found the exact same, just OK.

Agree, very nice setting. There were six of us in there when I went and the place was full. We shared plates of bruschetta and the anti-pasti to start and I have to say these were generous and delicious and tip-top quality. I had the seafood pasta to follow and that was very good. A couple of us had pizza and these looked fine but I personally wouldnt order one in a resto as prefer something else.

The french place in the Grass market is always good the Current Mrs 148 always go there when in Edinburgh. Also there is an Italian, next door to the Michelin star place in Castle . The michelin place itself was a bit of a letdown, and the wine was so overpriced it was daylight robbery

Well, I the trip up is this weekend and I been looking at menus in readiness. This list is pretty spot on for what I am looking for. The first 2 and Fishers are looking favourites at the moment. Thanks to all for some great options. Will report back on Monday

I flew to Edinburgh and back today and should have read this as I had a couple of hours spare and wanted to eat!

Looks like we are getting a new customer there so will check a few of these out.

something has changed with them- we had a night out there with 24 of us- loved it and when the group were looking again a few mths later we all came back to Amarone, it was like a different restaurant. It has to be a major staff change to be radically different.

To ensure quality we will do Gleneagles in July plus its a great place to be when its light till 11pm :thup: but I do like Edinburgh in Summer

Don't know how it ranks amongst Embra pubs but The Guildford Arms was pretty spectacular and friendly place when I went there a couple of months back (though it was the only pub we went into so might be rather ordinary in the scheme of things)

Trying to find a table on the day was not easy so ended uo with a bit of a random selection but it was superb. Ended up at Wildest Dram. Great locally sourced ingredients and very knowledgeable staff. Specialise in local cuisine, craft beers and whiskeys. Started on some incredible smokey tasting Loch Lomond IPA pre dinner. Started on venison haggis and smoked trout followed by hare with mustard mash and stout sticky toffee pudding with whiskey ice cream. Excellent. Stayed off the wine and took a recommended beer, whskey or mead with each course. Staff very knowledgeable and no pretensions at all. Clearly they do it for the love of it. Very happy with my choice
