Pitch Marks

I'm with Shark on this one, I repair too many. Lately I've been repairing upto 5 or 6 per green, and have on 2 occasions, hopped across a fairway to tell the group infrint that it would be helpful if they could repair the pitchmarks they are leaving. I find it disgusting that people like me who have only been playing a short while have to remind seasoned golfers to get their act together for the benefit of others.

I also think that Marshall need to spend more time monitoring this and slow play, thanlooking for balls to give to their freinds, or hidinng out of site on a buggy. Or is that just at my club

It has definitely become a bigger issue again now the greens are soft. I know we have certain groups both midweek and weekends that are made up of the same faces and none of them will repair the pitchmark no matter what. I'm waiting for the day their ball plugs on the green. They'll no doubt pick it up move it to the side, putt out and leave the crater. The weekend guys are basically choppers who go out first thing and to be honest they don't know how to spell etiquette let alone what it means. They are berated week in week out for starting the day off so slowly (they are really bad) and by the groups behind for the state they leave the greens in. Water off a ducks bad and even the threat of letters to the committee has cut no ice.

I've spoken about the midweek groups before who are all seniors. Like others it does seem that some of them think repairing pitch marks is the job of the greenstaff. Some of them have served on committees so there is no excuse. Some though are pretty good but they never seem to get the message across to the others in their group.

Personally I just repair those I find and get on with it.

I was always taught to repair your own and one other and the problem will soon be gone, as long as half the players do the same. Work that out for yourself.

Shark

Same here, but sometimes even that's not enough and I'll try to repair any obvious ones that I see while I'm on the green.

I'm also astounded sometimes by the condition some people leave bunkers in, but that's probably another thread.

and even the threat of letters to the committee has cut no ice.

Oh! a letter!!

God. We're so (traditionally) British sometimes.

I know I started this thread, and to be honest I'd rather just grab the offenders by the scruff of the neck and drag them back to the green to repair it. But that would make me the 'other' British. A thug.

'Letters'. Pah. Waste of time.

We would try e-mail but as our committee are technophobic we're thinking about big letters and no joined up writing. It has got to the point with these guys where they are actually ruining it for so many in the groups behind and making the pace of play at a peak time ludicrous. They've ignored subtle and not so subtle comments and advice so we fear we have to take it further

I really am starting to feel sorry for you Homer. It can't be nice being a member of a course where there are so many self centred people who think that they are right all the time and don't recognise the needs of others. I suppose that I am lucky that at Sundridge we rarely have the problems that you describe.

Just as a thought, when you want an early and quick round, why don't you tee off before the offenders? :D :D

Just a thought..........
If the majority of golfers repair repair 2 pitchmarks on every green, why should the minority?
They play, they make pitchmarks, the next day they've gone. Would the minority repair their pitchmarks if no-one else did it for them?
Just wondered :D
