Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead

True it does seem to be glorified by certain parties. Rock/Heavy metal musicians are big time offenders of this

True drug and alcohol consumption to excess is glamourized by the people with a rock lifestyle, but as others have written, it is a choice.

Take for example Alice Cooper, he need an out from the downward spiral of drugs and drink and chose golf to fill his time in.

Do not know which is the most destructive personally!

I think he did a lot of stage acting too, if I'm not wrong? I only saw him in a few movies, including 'The Boat That Rocked'. It might not have been his greatest role but certainly one a lot of people will remember him from. Sad to lose someone to drugs, but it seems to happen once a year at least to a 'big name'...

I didn't recognise his name but as soon as I Googled it last night I recognised him immediately.

It was reported that he had been struggling for a year with an addiction to prescription drugs, the hard drugs stories are being dredged up from 20+ years ago by the media apparently!

For those that don't recognise the name

Perhaps not the best example of his talent. Like many actors these days, he did some big budget popcorn fare mixed in with indie more interesting stuff.

Was a wee bit surprised by the reaction to this guys death.I'd seen his films, but I have deffo mis-gauged his popularity.

As someone who has dabbled in pretty much every drug a lifetime ago, I struggle to have sympathy with anyone who takes it too far.

Some fading star will, to put them back in the media spotlight. He'll be touted as a great gangster star ala De Nero and a great family man off screen. That's how it works!!!
Well he was a great talent, having won one Oscar and 3 other nominations, and it is too bad he killed himself.

When Danny Dyer dies, we won't say he was a great talent.

Don't know a single positive outcome of anyone who has tried hard drugs. Educated people taking drugs. A contradiction of terms.
